Looks good, part from the Akasa Ambers which can be pretty noisy in there 120mm form plus there are better fans which push more air.

Yate Loon and Scythe fans might be a better investment.

what bout the commando

is there much difference between the two mobos

The Commando's an Intel chipest whereas the Striker's nForce 680 (I seem to recall there were some problems with that chipset? Something to do with data corruption?).

I don't think the Commando supports SLi. Can someone confirm?

Apart from that the Striker's got a fancier heatpipe design and costs about £70 more.

Don't take my word for it though, but I wouldn't spend that much on a mobo.

It gets a good review in CustomPC.

If you don't have a budget and want SLi the Striker's probably the best you're going to get.



Get me one while you're at it.

I have found the regular cooling on my BFG 680i is enough to get me to 3GHz easily, so it depends what you're going to do with it.

650SLi board (Asus and Abit do one each) is probably all you'll need, and then you've saved yourself over a ton.

If you were going to get the Striker, then I would suggest you get entirely overclocking-friendly components like Team Group or Crucial 10th Anniversary RAM, Seasonic, Enermax, Tagen or Corsair PSU, Nexus Fans, etc, etc...

I would change the mobo from the Striker and save some coin, and buy either the EVGA or the BGF 680. I would stick with the Zalman CNPS9700, it does the job very well imo.

I would also get the Corsair 620w PSU, its one of the best out there at the moment.

Do you not need a keyboard, mouse, or monitor, Speakers, or even a Soundcard?

dont get the striker. Its extremly buggy.

The Bfg or evga is a lot better option

I have the OCZ Platinum 2. It does about 450MHz (900 DDR) so not really clocking RAM compared to Micron chip based sticks.

look for ram with low latency, the lower the latency the faster the ram can perform, also to overclock but generally speaking the lower the latency the higher the price note
