Firstly, I know that the E4500 isnt the most cost effective solution. However, I dont want to OC for the first few months at least, and therefore want the quickest "budget" chip I can get.
Also, Im not too sure about the hard drive. 160GB is all I need (I store my media on externals), but is it an ok product?
If anyone can see somewhere to shave a few quid off that would be nice, as Im about £50 over budget, but its not too desperate! Cheers for the help :)

I would suggest getting a 2160/2140 then clocking it up to 3GHz with a decent cooler. Then if the chip goes bang its not a big problem - although it won't as the Intels never do when OC'd.

Please always remember to check ALL your hardware, including printers scanners etc for compatibility with Vista 64.

Try this on for size:

Whoops, that should be Vista 32bit anyway! And I agree, I would rather go with the X1950 above the 8600, and upgrade next year to a DX10 card. Cheers for putting that up though, given me something else to think about!

Oh its 3am and im on 4 hours sleep.

The performance will be greater with the OC and the gpu is picked for DX10 mainly. Never can be sure what it will be used for in the future. Also I have been influenced by Jacob Billing  Swap the GPU for the X1950 and your sorted.

But the 1950pro runs DX9 games better, and the 8600 series is barely worth having at DX10 according to most reviews, so why would I want to spend £15 more one an 8600gt? Im not having a go at you, if you can show me that its worthwhile then I will do it, but I just cant see why I would want to.

How will that Geil RAM be for OCing? Also, what do you guys reckon to the EVGA 650i mobo? Im debating going a little cheaper, and getting that and the 2160.

GAH too many options; or I could get the P35 DS3R, the E2160 and an 8600GTS. Unfortunately no matter what I do (except for going with a cheap AMD) I cant afford one of the 8800 series.

Yea, thats what I thought-makes it much easier to go Penryn in a year or two. To be honest Im still thinking that my original spec, maybe with a change of HDD is the way to go.

What do you think of that RAM? Is it ok for minor OCing? I wont be going all out with it.

Last but not least, will the XP disc that came with my old Dell work with it? I wont be using my Dell any longer (I run Linux on it anyway), so would I be able to dual boot with that?
