Hey all,

I have been chomping at the bit to start building a new PC and have just been waiting on products to be released.

I am now at the stage to present my rig to OcUK for critical analysis :)

spec3.jpg

Main Concerns:

  • SSD/HDD: At the moment it is a WD 1TB Caviar Black. I want the system to be relativly quiet and the WD CB seem to give of quite some noise. Would I be better having the Caviar blue?
I will have the OS and my main game on the SSD, the rest will be on the HDD
  • Graphics Card: My plan is the buy a graphics card now and then buy the 28nm cards when they are released. However, when BF3 is released I want to be able to play that maxed out. Do you thin the EVGA DS 560Ti will be able to handle this?

To Note:

I am going for the 2600K instead of the 2500K as I will be doing quite a bit of other work apart from gaming, such a rendering etc... So no need to suggest the 2500K.

Thanks for any responses,

Evoss

Nothing wrong with it as far as i can see.

You will probably get some people tell you to get a air cooler instead, but meh.

What do you think with that hard drive? Stay with WD Caviar Black or goto a Caviar Blue/Green for less noise.

I wont be having loads on the SSD, so a lot will be done on the HDD. I dont want clicking that drives me mad when Im confined to a Uni hall xD

How good/quiet is the WD Caviar Blue?

I saw your thread on the motherboard so I'm pretty sure this maybe a wasted post. (do i keep on typing...??)

However, I would seriously consider changing your motherboard choice.

Have a look at the Z68 boards which support PCI-E 3.0 lanes. that way when the new CPUs and 28nm cards come out you can full utilise them!

Asrock Fatal1ty Z68 Pro Gen 3 - £204.98

you save £155 which could go on a better graphics card or just in your back pocket!

Just my thoughts.

Are the 28nm cards using PCI-E 3.0? I haven't really looked into them. If I get the Gigabyte, will I be able to use the 28nm cards?

No offense Asrock but I have a G1. Sniper 2 that has PCI-E 3.0 and its sitting right here. I was told available by end of month. I tried it out today

So the Gigabyte G1 Sniper 2 does have PCI-E 3.0 as it doesn't say on the OcUK page?

Well i have just googled my butt off, and cant find any other reference to this board support pci-e3.0

Theres a facebook thing about this board you can try asking the gigabyte rep who is present there.

Ok, if the board doesn't support PCI-E 3.0, does this mean I cannot use the 28nm cards?

What are the limitations?

Think I will go ahead with what there is there and just look further more into HDDs unless anyone else has anymore comments?
