I am wondering if the graphics card is more than I need for running current games like COD black ops at 1920 x 1080, is there a less expensive card that can give me a good quality and decent frame rate?

My original budget was circa £750 but I decided that I would be better off with the i7 rather than the i5 as I do some photo and video editing, I also thought it would make the pc much more future proof. So I saved a bit longer and upped my budget to £900.

I was going to use a Corsair GS600 psu but as the price of the Antec EA 550w '80 Plus Platinum' psu was only slightly dearer, I think it will reduce my energy consumption.

I definitely like the look of the psu you suggested but will probably go for the 550w version.

I'll stick with the pioneer dvdrw as I have had one before that read every brand of dvd I threw at it, unlike the samsung I have now which is useless.

I will also stick with an ocuk bundle as they are very good value.
I know that at the moment there aren't many applications that benefit from hyper threading but I am trying to avoid an expensive mistake by going for the i5 and later finding that I should have got the i7 because software writers have caught up with the newest cpu's.I also like to be able to render video and still be able to work on the pc

I don't need a new case as I got rid of my old beige box and bought a Zalman Z9 last year.

You can use the Windows 8 Evaluation Edition for free on a 3 month trial. Windows 8.1 should get a preview too you can try.

A semi modular PSU is really a must in the Z9 chassis (I own one). This 7870XT is a Tahiti core so is related to the 7950 (snips didn't use one it's really worth the slight extra cost), OC it and you are trading blows with a stock 7950. 16GB of RAM which has good OC potential. HDD is B grade but does save around £20. Mobo includes a cooler and has 4 sata cables inc. The optical is good (I own one) OCuk inform me it's still the B revision that can be cross flashed to become a iHAS-524 and unlock the extra features.

I have made a few changes to my spec after following some of the advice given in this thread but am not 100% sure on the psu, I have a Zalman Z9 case with the psu mount at the bottom,so am concerned about cable length. so any advice on psu's and cable lengths would be appreciated.
