Hi All,

I'm looking at building a system for myself for the first time in 10 years..
Basically, there are 2 games that are being released that I really want to play:
Warhammer total war
Battlefleet Gothic Armada

None of the computers that I have at the moment are up to the challenge, so I thought i would treat myself to the following:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £968.37
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Basically, is there anything I've missed? Software wise, I have a windows 7 install that I can use and then upgrade for free to 10, and I have a keyboard/mouse and monitor already.

What would the difference in performance be if I used an I5- 6500k instead of the I7?

Cheers

Dan

I would advise you wait a couple more months for the Pascal cards to arrive before you buy a GTX 970.

Also if it's mainly a gaming rig i'd opt for the i5 6600K. It's quick and really not far off the i7, plus there's room for overclocking in the future.

FYI, you don't need RAM that fast. It's a pointless gimmick IMO. 2400Mhz is more than enough and cheaper.

I would agree with BluesFanUK, ram speeds over 2400MHz is unnecessary and could cause you instability for practically no improvement as you won't be running onboard graphics. For gaming the i5 6600k is more than adequate, everything else looks pretty solid maybe go with a more reliable PSU.

I agree with RAM over 2400MHz being unnecessary. Mine's 3000MHz, but it was part of a bundle deal. The 6600K is plenty for what you need.

For the PSU, I would suggest a slightly better unit. This Antec unit is non-modular but built by Seasonic and costs a little less than the beQuiet:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/antec-truepower-classic-550w-80-plus-gold-power-supply-ca-202-an.html

This 550W fully modular PSU is made by Superflower and is only a couple of quid more:

Both of these PSU options are Gold rated as well.

If you do need to get a graphics card, then at the moment, the R9 390 Nitro is on a very good deal:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...rd-with-backplate-11244-01-20g-gx-373-sp.html

It's another £10 but you get 8GB of VRAM. If you're not into regularly upgrading your graphics card, this should last you a good while. Alternatively, this XFX 390 is £260, isn't on offer and also comes with 8GB VRAM:

Looks like a reasonably balanced build. However ...

As others have said, the ram speed is overkill and may actually cause instability depending on the motherboard (check your motherboard's qualified vendor list).

The 6700k might be overkill if you're mostly gaming, perhaps consider the 6600k and invest the money saved into a better case and PSU which will last you.

Definitely look at upgrading the case. You'll regret trying to work with a cheapo case and will thank yourself for spending a little extra when you do your build. If you ditch the extra fans you can invest the money saved into a better case with included fans. Have a look at something like the Fractal Design Define S (or another in the same ballpark) perhaps.

A better 550W or 650W Gold PSU may be a better fit depending on your intended GPU. Speaking of which, if you can wait it out for the next generation of Nvidia and AMD cards it may be worth it, either for those cards themselves or the likely discounting of existing cards. But if you want to get in the game now, the GTX 970 is a solid choice.

How about this then:

Its a bit cheaper with the I5. :)

I've got the Themis in my spare PC. I can safely say that it's just as good as a 212 Evo and probably easier to install as well.

The build quality of my Enthoo Pro is great - first case I've had that didn't have any sharp edges!
