Check my topology!

I totally forgot about that! I've removed it lol.

Thanks i'll have a nosey around, thanks for your help it's been really useful and interesting. How did you learn everything? Degree and work experience? Just through work?

It's a good question really, I guess it's just been my job to know it and I've looked up what I didn't know and remembered it. I've been pretty lucky to get a job with one of the fastest growing business ISPs about and been promoted regularly. I've just passed my CCIE now and quit that job (though I've been hired again by them as a consultant for pretty much the same money, means I can do a bit of consulting on the side in addition).

That's pretty cool :)

I desperately need a 1U patch panel for Visio but I can't find anything anywhere, don't suppose you can be of any help?

I'm at the other halfs atm so I don't have my work laptop, I get most of my stencils from...

I believe in the rack section of the HP common stencils there are some patch panels...

Krone do patch panel visio stencils

At work we have a bit of a complex setup

2800 router
|
3Com Switch
|
transparent pix
|
cisco blade switch (model no escapes me)
|
routed pix
|
3 x 3560G (48 port)

We needed some servers running without NAT (so they were configured with the public IP) hence the transparent PIX. I then found that the pix can run mixed context but this looked to be a PITA to setup so 2 PIX's it was :-)

With firewalls we are moving away from the PIX as the latest IOS on the 2800's can run firewall as well with them being an all in one box
