Can you guys check this spec for any compatibility problems or anything that you would change, before I order tomorrow.

Ps. This is going to be matched with a Dell 24". Thanks!!

No need for the SATA Cables...

RAID 0 or 1 on the disks?

if your thinking RAID 0 - DON'T - not a good idea at all for primary storage ( and only of marginal benefit for non-primary storage ).

Not sure how WD fair these days, personally I'd go for two Samsung Spinpoints or Hitachi's.

why two DVD-RW's? Stick with the 4551 and drop the other one.

Not sure what P180's are like as a case. Personally I'd go for Yewen's favourite Lian Li.

All looks good. I ordered a similar spec machine myself last week.

One word of warning though - the P180 isn't the greatest case to use with a modular PSU. There's not a lot of space at the bottom of the case where the PSU goes as there is also a 120mm fan down there which i had to remove in mine (with a hiper 580w) to get the cables through.

Removing the fan isn't an issue tbh though and it hasn't affected my temps at all - running ~30C under load, and it's still a fantastic case.

Spinpoints are said to be the quietest 7200rpm drives you can get, as well as being very fast.

Hitachi's, although are audible while seeking, are silent when idle, and are even faster than the Spinpoints.

I personally went with the WD 320's as they offer best capacity for price, and are a lot faster than my old 200GB PATA WD.

I only ever use one of my optical drives. I use the other one when I have been too lazy to rip the disc and mount it in Daemon Tools. Buying two optical drives made sense in the CDR drives when one drive was amazing at ripping perfect copies, and another drive was amazing at burning perfect copies of said perfect rip.

I also went for a single raptor + storage drive. You can always add another raptor in RAID later for the best possible SATA performance, all a matter of preference I guess.

On the P180, it's a great case, specially if you are looking for a quiet system. It is cramped with a modular PSU, The tagan was an effort to get in but it's now all sorted. I flipped the PSU bay fan to the other side of the bracket to get more space, easy enough to to, other people as mentioned have removed it all together. If you like the P180 features stick with it.

Thanks all for your comments guys, it's been a great help.

I think I'll stick with the P180, cos I really like it's features!!

May go for one of the 150gb Raptor for OS,and drop one of the 320gb!!

If you go for top bay drives and flipped bottom bay fan, remove the fan completely before you put the PSU in, figure out exactly what cables you need in the PSU before you set it in the case and it should be much easier.

It's an easy enough job to flip the fan, just push/pull the fan plastic bracket and it will come out. Unscrew it off the bracket, flip it, screw it back on the plastic bracket then fix it again on the other side of the cases metal bracket, so it's blowing instead of sucking.

This way you probably won't have space to install drives in the bottom bay. I tried with a smaller fan (Akasa amber) and it was very tight, in the end I couldn't see why do this anyhow. I reckon the airflow is higher over the drives in the top bay since there are 2 120mm fans sucking air out there.

Also watchout for the space between the top drives and the GFX card power.

A few pics for reference on layout of the fan and cabling, since my system is almost identical to what you are getting:

As you can see, I replaced my top bay fans with Akasa Ambers, but to be honest the stock Antec ones are pretty quiet anyhow.

I'm a silence fiend so I also added a fan controller to the setup which is great to keep noise to a minimum when there is no load on the system. I went for Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller Pro (OA-002-AK) which can control all 4 fans in the case, and in blue LED mode it matches the P180 LEDs nicely :)

I've also got a Zalman fan mate to silence the terrible noise from the chipset mobo fan, but you won't have that problem :)

Genoma, what spec is that system mate? and what motherboard is that?
Just out of intrest :)

It's an AMD x2 4400, Raptor + Storage, ATI X1900, 2GB RAM, Tagan 530W and a ThermalRight SI-120 heatsink.

The motherboard is an Asus A8N-E, which on hindsight I would have invested a bit more for the premium version which has a passive chipset cooler.

Performance wise it's great though, overclocking the GFX I can get around 5800 score on 3DMark06.

The P180 is great for sound dampening (aluminium+plastic insulation) and vibration dampening, all drive bays have rubber/silicone spacers so there is no direct metal on metal contact. Even the PSU cage has small rubber strips around it.

Is that good? I am going to use that same MB so just wondering, I am a noob with 3DMark and such, so I don't know if thats a good score or not.
I'd like to know though. :)
Infact my machine is pretty much the same just different case and psu right now hehe.

It's about right for a X1900XTX rig with the same CPU. Ok, "great" might be an exageration :) but it shows that there isn't anything significantly wrong with the performance as it matches similar setups :) which to me is what 3DMark scores are good for (an reference for the machine's performance based on graphic and CPU performance).

SLi rigs are getting much higher scores as a result.

There is nothing wrong with the mobo, but as I said in hindsight, I would consider the Premium board with the quiet passive heatpipes instead of a noisy chipset fan. In fact I would probably have gone now for a proper crossfire chipset mobo to match the ATI card.
