Looks fairly good, the motherboard seems to be popular around here. Just to check, is that XFI a proper one? i.e. full EAX5

EDIT: Where is the ram?

Realy good price, I have heard a lot about these boards they are becoming very popular among rig builders.

but im only going to use it for gaming and general stuff do u think i would need it?

That would be better for gaming. Tbh, you only need to buy it once and it will last you quite a long time.

But, hows this for an alternative build? Socket AM3, so it's more 'future proof'

an extra £60 and i dont even get as much cpu power someone please telll me why i would ever want to do this

Lol.

Like I said, it's socket AM3 rather than AM2, so it's more 'future proof'.

Secondly, the AMD Tri-core is a very good performer when it comes to games, which I assume you'll be playing. It's basically a Phenom II quad, with one core disabled. Now, it's actually possible to unlock that 4th core quite easily (depending on the chip), plenty of guides on the net. However, sometimes it's not possible to unlock the 4th core.

It performs very well in gaming benchmarks, fairly close to the E8400. But, like I said, it's just an alternative spec for you to think about.

Well fungus, that's a long article.

Lets cut to the chase, the 720 is a good performer, he can choose to unlock 4th core if he wishes (and if its possible). I only suggested it as it does well in games and it's a newer socket.

So take this :p

The tri core runs cooler, so can be run faster :)
That's more processing speed than the quad, unless you manage to stress four cores with something (gaming wont)

If you already have ram, which? It's worth checking it's compatible.

haha haj well if you had ebough time and care to read basically only 2 motherboard manufacturers are allowing this so called 4th core unlock and they are ASROCK and BIOSTAR. gigabyte and asus ahve already release BIOS's which have disabled the ACC which is used for unlocking the 4th core:D but yeh with the rest yyou said
