Alright,

I've quite possibly finally got the required cash I need to secure a nice workstation and entertainment PC, by entertainment I mean games, movies and music blah blah; to sit nicely in my room at University.

So I've put something together myself that goe's like this:

If you have any suggestions/additions/changes to the spec please go right ahead.

I've got £1150 to spend Maximum, I need everything.

I'd get a P35-based mobo instead. It'll perform better, especially as SLi is a waste of money anyway. Are you overclocking?

The Seagate 7200.10 250 GB disk is significantly faster than its WD competitor.

If you've got £1150 maximum I think you are in a bit of a bind. ;)

Meh, the peripherals is really what kills it. The base is less than 800.

If the money is important here then I can't do better than Billy's specification but you could use an Akasa Zen as the case and that will put you almost exactly on the £1150. :)

Hi guys,

I've switched from the WD to Seagate counterpart HD's.

Im pretty hesitant on the Diamondback 3G as I wasn't too impressed with the comfort and size with the original. Then again the Deathadder doe's have a different shape and size compared to the Copperhead and Diamondback, doe's anyone have an opinion on that?.

I might still try out the Logitech G5 as it's got a lot of positive reviews and looks very comfortable and a good size, anyone agree?.

I will also choose a P35 Motherboard butmaybe not the Abit IP35-E though as Im not too keen on it's features and im unsure of it's ability to overclock compared to the Gigabyte DS3R which is a little more pricey. However I've seen and heard a lot of good things about that. Doe's anyone have much to say about the Abit IP35-E?

I was also considering getting 2x Geil PC6400/800Mhz 4-4-4-12 (2x1Gb) over the OCZ 4Gb stuff I saw on special offer as it has better timings. Though I've heard from many, that they have problems overclocking with more than two RAM sticks due to the memory controller having problems on most motherboards, is this true?.

Im also tempted to buy an Accelero S1 Heatsink and Module Fan for the 8800GT as the temps being reported are around 90c at full load on that card, would this be alright, or doe's anyone have something to say against it?.

Is there anything wrong with the Gigabyte ODIN Pro 550W compared to the Corsair 520W?.

Oh and doe's anyone know what's with the £55 delivery cost?!.

Thankyou for answering any questions you are able to.

Id put the high delivery charge being down to the fact thats next day delivery via city link for a lot of stuff and weight!

The IP35-E is not a very good overclocker. I chose it since I didn't think you were overclocking because you hadn't included a decent CPU cooler or a motherboard noted for its overclocking ability in your OP and you'd not yet responded to the question regarding it. :p

The 2 x 2 GiB RAM choice was similarly derived. I was trying to reduce price on the assumption that you were not overclocking.

I don't know anything about the Gigabyte ODIN Pro 550W other than Gigabyte does not have a reputation for making exceptionally good PSUs. The Corsair is a great PSU and is a safe bet in terms of noise, stability, looks, and price.

The S1 is an excellent choice for that card and the Graphics Card forum is rife with threads raving about it.

Since you are overclocking I think it would be most prudent to drop the quad and the E6750 and get an E2180 and overclock it to 3+ GHz. That would put you closer to the target cost and would work nicely for you.

Not exactly, I just specified the same system for a bit of a play around to see if I could work it out and apparantly breaking the £950 mark (not including VAT) causes the price to jump £30. It was £24.95 for shipping up to that point and then suddenly it is £54.95. Presumably something to do with insurance. :)

Oberon, I've got a G7 which is almost exactly the same mouse as the G5 but it is wireless and I think it is great but not everyone gets on with Logitech mice (or Microsoft or Razer etc etc) so if you can test one out before you buy then I'd strongly suggest it.

90C at full load for a graphics card probably isn't a huge issue, they cope with heat a lot better than CPUs but lower temperatures are obviously better here so if you are happy messing about with an aftermarket cooler then go for it.

Would I get away with a 520W PSU and Overclocking with that hardware?!.

Thanks to everyone for their input so far.

Easily, the Corsair HX 520w is a quality bit of kit. It is very stable and that is more important for overclocking safely than a headline grabbing figure of 600w if the PSU is only actually capable of supplying say 300w continuously. :)
