Hi All,

Just a quick warning to remember to check your cooling setups.

You'll be supprised how much your system temp increases in this kind of hot weather.

Simple tips really:
1) Try to make sure your cabling isn't blocking your CPU Fan this is can have a large effect on your CPU temp.

2) If you can space out your PCI cards, especially try and keep your GPU away from other cards.

3) Remember case fans cost next to nothing in comparison with the rest of your rig. If you're at all concerned it's worth throwing a couple of fans in to help, you can always remove them later.

I was messing with my rig about 3 weeks ago and didn't remember to tie the cables back in place,

Just finished doing it now and my CPU temp dropped from 49c to 40c

ty's mate.

I thought of this earlier actually. Fortunately i built my pcs with very low temps in mind, and minimisation of dust ingress.

My pc's haven't really suffered. Temps are up but nothing worrying :D

What kind of hot weather?

It is quite cold up here and this is without a doubt the worst summer i have ever known. The last hot spell we had was back in the end of March-begining of April. I went watercooling last year because it was hot and this year it has been hopeless. Nothing but cold rain and wind. At least my rig idles in the low 20's and never goes above 40 under load. :D That's the only good thing about this weather.

Small colour co-ordinated cable ties :D

or velcro strips

Ive seen some stuff that wraps round the cables making 6/8 cables look like one i think not sure if overclockers sell it tho.

sisters PC has an idle CPU temp of 50 deg C - has been crashing all over the place apparently, might have to pay the inside of it a visit this weekend and sort it out :o

what do you people use on your cables to keep them all tidy im going to do all mine when i install my new processor.

You can get away with bog standard electric plastic ties (from any decent hardware store), just strap them around the loose cables and to the side of your case. so in my case all the PSU cables are strapped to holes in the CD/DVD drive bay. Not the prettiest of things, but it works.

They're cheap (about 50 for a pound or two).

But there's no point as you can see having a super powerful cooler on your CPU with loads of cables blocking it. Nowadays most cases have a detachable side panel to get into your PC, so nice and easy to check out what the cooling setup looks like :)

Thanks for that mine is a real mess at the mo but im not going to do it till i have my new processor in i will try what you have said, as i have a clear side window in my pc case.

Did mine on Sunday when fitting new C2D :)

Also bought 2 very quiet Akasa 80mm side case fans to keep it nice a fresh inside. Along with a 12cm on the front and back, a Zalman all copper on the GFX and an Akasa 961 on the cpu, even though its 25c outside the case is a nice 30c inside with idle cpu temps of 39c and 46c under load. :D

Kept all the cables together with insulation tape and hid them all inbetween the 2 optical drives to help airflow.

The side case fans have helped tremendously.

Got a bag of black cable-ties with my PSU. Nice because the colour matches the rest of the PC and they're only 3 or 4 inches long, not a foot like normal bag ties.

Works a treat and saves having to find the scissors if you have cable ties as the tape will peel off and sticks well even under hot temps ;)
