As the title a friendly reminder to all to check your GPUs, if you notice any sag act fast to correct it.
I didn't and have broken a asus x670e extreme motherboard because of it, lately I have been getting all kinds of weird behaviour, game crashes, black and blue screens.

I changed motherboards last night and my GPU sits perfectly in the pcie slot, no sag and every game that crashed before works a treat.

Don't do what I did, if you notice your card sagging when installed buy a brace, if gone too far the damage may already have been done.

Rip my x670e extreme, you'll be missed

What card was it?

I think it was my old tuf 4090oc that did it, when I changed to a 7900xtx mba the GPU disconnect issues just got worse and worse until the point my pc would shut down when I launched a game, checked everything temps and voltages were all good, custom loop for everything including the cards.

I did run a gene x670 a few weeks ago with the same card (7900xtx) and CPU ram combo and no issues at all then moved back to a atx size build and a x670e hero, so far no problems at all everything is great and GPU is perfect no sag at all

I won a 4070 that I sold but it came with an Asus Tuf GPU mount… best thing ever.
A little adjustable stick thing.

The extreme and hero do come with support brackets but the are comically small and are of no use in medium - large cases, useless bundled accessory's

The tuf one I got worked in my o11 and my NV5 no problems.
It’s telescopic. From about 5cm to 10cm

Remember the 4090 is a 3.5 slot card

True but when both are watercoolled the extra gap will catch you out, as they both drop to single slot, granted the 4090 may be a touch thicker.

tbf if you watercool it… I had a 3090 with an ek block I can’t see how that would rag a slot… and it was a heavy block…

Given how expensive the extreme was I took the upmost care in making sure I didn't damage it, when any GPU lately was installed in the top pcie slot the sag was very noticeable, coupled with all the problems in windows and games it made sense the board wasn't right.

Now on a hero board the GPU sits perfectly level

Dose that GPU not come with a bracket of some sort. The 4070 tuf is a £600 GPU and they had something. You would think a big GPU like that would include something.

The tuf 4090 did have a strut but fully extended was around 10cm, I did have a 7000d and had to order a 25cm bracket from the rainforest so the GPU could be supported from the PSU cover to the card, was a few weeks until I got it so maybe the weight of the WC card during that time sealed the fate of the motherboard

Yer so with the block on the post would be nowhere near… that’s sucks.

I used a few things in the past to help sag like I put the GPU power plugs over the top not under. Pull the tight and zip tie them and they help massively. But tbf since I got this post thing that’s what I use..

The waterblock alone for my 7900XTX is nigh on 2Kg
