Check your HD 5770 vapor-x shader counts!

Saw this when it was posted on Techpowerup, surprised your the first to mention it here.
Will be interesting to see if any users here have the issue.

Bad news for people with these cards, thankfully the correct bios is available to get them working properly.

Depends if they are actually hardware cut or just disabled at software level.

I'm assuming the only reason some of the Sapphire 5770 were shipped with the 720 bios was because they were meant to be 5750s so based on that it could be possible that the 5750s will be able to flash to 5770s.

This is just a theory because I can't see any other reason why those vapour-x 5770s would have the 720 stream processor bios in the first place.

I have 2 5750.
I flashed both with the Asus 5770 bios to try and get a better overclock.
The flash worked but i could not get a better overclock 775/1225, my cards just suck when it comes to clocking.
Some games i can run my clocks at 825/1225 and it will play for hours. Then load up another game and it will crash (like Dirt2)
I even get the option to up the voltage with the flash. But i think even though im uping it using doctor its still staying the same.

I might try this flash and see how it goes.

If you try it let us know if it works muppetkiller. My brother has a decent clocking 5750 (only 512MB unfortunately), so if they can be unlocked to 5770s with extra stream processors I'll be trying to find a BIOS for him.

Did it unlock any stream processors?

Only had a few mins to try this. I flashed with a Sapphire bios but im not 100% sure its the bios that unlocks the extra 80 shadders (nope it did not work)

I will try again tomorrow.
If anyone can link me to the exact bios im to use that would be a help. I might be all ready using the correct bios but as i said im not 100% sure.

coming to think of it, my VTX3D 5770s have a white sticker on the rear of the box covering "HD5750"

on the front of the box it does say "HD 5770" and certainly is a 5770 in windows / gpu-z with 800 shaders, might be just a box thing in my case

....cheap vtx with their universal packaging :p
