Noticed my front drivers side tyre was looking like it could do with some air the other day, so over the weekend I borrowed my dads digital inflator, it was on 20psi instead of 30. Infact it turned out all 4 were around 20psi!

My car was a totally different drive this morning, must have been really low for quite a while, as I cant remember it ever feeling like this to drive! I wonder how often you guys check them? I bet there are so many drivers going around with really low tyres!

Just something that got me thinking on a Monday morning :)

Once a month normally, although if I know I am going on an longer journey ~100 miles, then I will check them then (+ the spare).

All my tyres are nitrogen inflated, seem to keep the PSI for a longer period as opposed to the standard air. Usually last about 4 months before the pressure starts dropping on them.

You may have noticed the problem because of the colder weather recently. The outside temperature can make a really significant difference to tyre pressures.

All modern cars manufactured since (I think) April 2013, have to have tyre pressure monitoring systems installed, so for me it's not something I have to check manually, although I do so every few weeks anyway.

Every couple of weeks, ever since I went through a period of constantly getting slow punctures I've been a bit anal about checking them all of the time.

True.. but those systems are ABS sensor / rolling resistance based rather than PSI (which some cars do have)... takes quite a pressure hit before they signal usually, not too accurate

Best to check them properly I say :)

Most of these systems are more for puncture awareness than actual reading, bmw and their love of the run flat tyre springs to mind

Yep, you can easily drop a third/half before it picks it up. The system is designed to help you notice dangerously low tyres, not just tyres that are a "bit" low.

Thanks for this thread reminding me, been needing a pressure gauge for a while now. Check to see how far the compressor is out.
