Anything immediately wrong here?

Any good links to a sites that offer explanations into the ins and outs of what is displayed there?
Looking to learn a bit before hopefully getting the most out of the connection later.

A very short line so you should see max speeds.

You are currently connecting via ADSL and will see a shade over 8Mbit with that. If you go to ADSL2+ then you'll see 20+Mbit.

If this is a new provision you should see the speed increase over the next day or so, if not then contact your ISP.

Noise margin shows you have a large difference between the ADSL and the background noise so have plenty of scope to increase your speed.

Thats cool, it's from a setup that has been running for 2ish years now, so not new! Using a HomeHub2.

A quick speedtest showed 4Mbps down and 0.5Mbps up (tested over wifi though) so will look into it mores when I'm there.

Was this the site you looked at Tealc? http://www2.farina1.com/ADSL/default.aspx
Or just giving the same numbers from your similar experience possibly ?

From reading here it looms like the Attenuation is super low, so why are we only seeing around half the bandwidth of what we should be? (wifi can't be that bad, probably could be it is a HomeHub) and those tests obviously weren't even direct from the master socket.

**Had a look and it looks like 4.5Mbps relates closely to my sync speed, so about 'right' at the moment? **

Are new faceplates only for reducing attenuation, or does it help the connection as a whole and bring improvements everywhere?

Anything under 30db line attenuation on ADSL will give you 8Mbit. Anything under 20dB on ADSL2+ will give you 20Mbit.

I used to look at the Kitz website from time to time but since working in Broadband support for a few months previously I got a bit of a feel for the numbers.

Your line has been adjusted to compensate for a potential fault.

There's no way a good 4.5dB line should be running at 5Mbit. Get your ISP to adjust it to it's proper 8Mbit, or if possible migrate you to ADSL2+.

Your throughput will never be more than your Sync speed so tackle the Sync first, then worry about how fast it goes afterwards.

Just got an email from my mum saying the ADSL filter isn't connected directly to the master socket and is running through a 3 metre extension before being filtered, so obviously a bit of house keeping to do!

Good to know it shouldn't be to hard to get some decent speeds out of (have fibre here now so take it all for granted!)

Massively stupid question here (I'm miles out of the loop) ADSL2+ is a service you pay extra for? Or something they can move you onto? Don't see a big mention of it on the BT site.
