Checking I've got everything set up right for GTX 670

Hi guys, few days with my new build now and all going good, just wanted to ask what is the best way to make sure my setup is correct for gaming perfomance with my GTX 670? Run a benchmark in certain modes?

I've installed the drivers from the disc that came with my Gigabyte motherboard, and got the Nvidia driver from their website for the 670, is there anything else you guys do to optimize things? Like fiddling with the Nvidia configuration program, the BIOS etc.

I've left everything on default, haven't touched BIOS at all.

I'm playing Crysis 2 with the Direct X11 patch and high resolution textures, with vsync on it's hitting 60 quite often but drops to 30 sometimes when the action kicks in. With vsync off it's much smoother but getting bits of tearing. Anybody else running this game on a GTX 670, would be interested to hear what config you use?

Thanks.

standard vsync: you drop below 60fps, it vsyncs you to 30fps.

Turn off the game's vsync, go to the nvidia control panel and find in the 3d application settings. The option for vsync can be set to 'adaptive' That will turn vsync off when you are under 60.

Try that.

BTW I would've installed any necessary drivers from the gigabyte site.

Ah, brilliant, that explains it, dropping from 60 to 30 makes me feel ill!

OK, I will give adaptive vsync a go, sounds like a plan.

Visiting the Gigabyte site too to make sure I've got their latest drivers, good tip.

Thanks.

I've seen somewhere on this forum people posting up benchmark results, is there a thread to do that so other people can chime in and say whether they look right for my setup?

Oh and how do you add your specs to your signature? Can't seem to find that option.

User CP (top left) then edit signature left hand side, then fill in your specs but read the FAQ on them if you want to avoid any trouble with the admins :)

As for benches, there are some in the relevant forum sections ie graphic card benches in the graphics card section etc etc....

Just picked up a 670 myself last week and have been playing Crysis 2 maxed out with high-res pack (rest of rig in sig).

My performance is similar to yours - deffo drops to below 60fps on occasion when really busy , to be expected I think.

Looks amazing though and the drops are not too frequent :)

Thanks guys, adaptive sync did the trick, plays like a dream now with vsync on. Maxed out with the high res pack it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for the signature tip Space Monkey, will check out the benchmark stuff, just saw it pop up in this section.
