Alittle help needed im looking into an astra sxi ,but ive found nothing about the different models ie sxi sri gsi its the specs im intrested in ,only spending about 2k-3k

Click a particular trim level/engine, then the 'Equipment and Options' link on each individual page should tell you that kind of thing.

The mk4 SXI came in either 3 or 5 door and with either a 1.8 or 1.6 16V engine.

They come with -20mm lowered sports suspension over the standard models (eg Club, LS) etc, sports seats, alloy wheels (either 15 or 16 inch dependant on the age of the vehicle) and front fog lights.

There was also the optional extra of having ABS/traction control added on and many of these have this feature so its worth hunting around for one with it as it may just save your bacon one day. The usual giveaway is whether the car has 4 or 5 stud wheel hubs, the general rule of thumb is that those with ABS/TC have 5 studs, those without have only 4 although there have been examples that break this rule so its worth checking.

Insurance groups are group 6-7 for the 1.6 and groups 8-9 for the 1.8. The only real difference between the 1.8SXi and SRi is that the SRi comes with a rear spoiler.

If you would like more info then please see the link in my sig as they carry a full guide to the different specifications. :)

Your other option may be the earlier produced Sport model which also came in both engine sizes.

P.S The GSi is the 2.0 Turbo and you definitely will not get one of those for £2-3k. :)

Hi there. Basic run down is as follows....

SXi<SRi<SRI-t<GSi

Perhaps not as simple as that, as the GSi simply replaced the SRi-t as it was only limited run.

SXi includes, lower suspension, 15/16" alloys depending on year, a/c sports interior front fogs. Option of
leccy mirrors,
traction control
cruise control (depending on year)
Irmscher bodykit etc.
ABS on 5-stud hubs

SRi is the same apart from the options became standard.
ABS as standard
Leather steering wheel
CDR500 radio/cd instead of CAR400 radio/cassette
Traction control
205/50 x16 wheels/tyres instead of 195/60/x15
Tailgate spoiler
Cruise Option (i think!)

SRI-t as the name suggests is a 2.0 Turbo unit, very tuneable (upwards of 250bhp achievable quite easily) and plenty fast. Same engine as the GSi. Different bodykits.

Engine choices are...

1.6/1.8 in SXi || 101bhp 0-60 10.5 / 123 bhp 0-60 8.5
1.8/2.0/2.2 in SRi || 123 bhp 0-60 8.5 / 134 bhp 0-60 8.5 / 144bhp 0-60-7.9
2.0 T in Gsi/SRi-T guise. || 190bhp 0-60 7s.

I would say on that budget your looking at a 1.8 SRi. The 1.8 is generally the engine of choice, same 0-60 as the 2.0 with a slightly lower top speed but better economy. The 2.2 is overly heavy and the power increase is very small.
