Hi all

I just wanted to check that I have enough juice to run n AMD 295x2.

Currently I have:

PSU - EVGA SuperNova G2 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply

i7 3770K at stock
32GB RAM
x2 SDD
x5 HDD
x1 BR-RW
x2 GTX 970

Will that be with an 295x2? I read on the product page that they need "850W or greater PSU required with genuine 8-Pin PCI-E cables"

I'm not exactly sure what it means by genuine 8-pin PCI-R cables...?

Also will it be OK with all those extra drives?

Thanks! :)

It means 8 pin pci-e connectors, but 6+2 pin works just fine as well - That's what i use.

That PSU will provide plenty of power. :)

295x2 Power Requirements - FYI.

I still think going from 970s in SLI that were struggling in 4k and the 3.5GB to the 295x2, which effectively has 512mb more, is a bit of a lost opportunity to get a couple 8GB 290X cards. I know there will be more heat than a 295x2, but it would make so much more sense to double your vram at 4k.

Hmmmm, yeah you could be on to something, have you seen benchmarks showing a big improvement doing it that way then? And what cards were you thinking of? AMD cards are completely new to me so I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for. I just had to get the 970's sent back before the end of Feb which is why I'm moving quickly on it.

And is that the reason why I might want to wait...is it the 290's that are going to be replaced with the 390s in a few weeks?

Your PSU is fine. I have 2 290s in crossfire and power draw never exceeds 700W.

Excellent, thanks! :)
