OCUK forums are not run by OCUK staff, it's a public discussion board mostly moderated by individuals with too much time on thei- er, by very nice individuals.
Maybe it was 869.99 before 799.99? I don't understand why you're bummed about the "former" price, just look at the sale price and decide if it's good. It's a fairly standard marketing technique, certain high street retailers literally raise the price for 3 weeks before applying the "discount".

It's also got a whole bunch of legislation around how long it needs to be at the higher price etc, just because most retailers get away with it doesn't make it not disappointing to see.
That said I agree entirely that you look at the price not the 'saving'!

Are you are right, silly post... perhaps next time they should just leave the price as is and put a higher price behind it. No point putting actual reductions when you can fake them
