Chelsea signed Shevchenko!!

Eto'o I can understand. I've never rated him. He reminds me of Darren Huckerby.

Fast, but a bit crap.

Ronny? Nah, can't go with that I'm afraid. Messi is similar to Rooney in that they're going to be great and they're already pretty special but they need more time to be at the top.

No, much worse than that. Man Utd buy players at top whack prices and then sell them after they have had a whinge at by Fergie and are then sold on for about 50p.
I agree, fergie has been lucky in the past being the richest club, lets face it he hardly has had a great buy for under 8 million in the last 6 years or so.

I think he's the luckiest manager in history in the english league. Most teams get one or two great youngsters or a great one every 3 or 4 years. Fergie got half a team all at once.

I dont think he's half the manager wenger is (god that hurts). The buys and sales he's made with players for less than 5 million are frankly amazing.

I dont begrudge chelsea this £££ patch, manu bullied teams with money for years. In fact I look forward to the day they buy rooney from a debt torn manu ;)

No matter what you say Rooney is a star, he'll just be an even bigger star in the future.
Which is basically what ive said.
I havnt denyed he's good. I have denyed that he's as good as people make out. At the moment.

id bet money that chelsea will draw milan in next seasons CL
Im hoping for it myself. It'll be an interesting game imo.
That wont be as clearcut as many will now probably think.

I have to agree with BaZ87 though, ive been far more impressed with Messi than i have with Rooney.
And this season, Ronny has been pretty lackluster.

I think thats pretty unfair. Deco is poor, but can play a ball, Eto'o is nothing but fast but he gets in the right positions, Ronny is one of the best players in the world.

Who does Rooney have? Sahahahahah, Ronaldo and an aging Giggs...

I agree, the thing I dont agree with is people saying he will get better. He wont. That seems to be a 'catch phrase'. Omg he's only 20 think how god he will be at his peak. Rubbish, they dont ever get better. A few players like Henry find their best position later on and play better. But the young stars are always at their peak when they are young.

Rooney wont get better, neither did owen. Giggs didnt get better, nor did scholes, Ronaldo (the fat brazilian). Gazza certainly didnt ;)

I dont think rooney will ever be better than he is now, he will just have to adapt slightly as he loses pace.

Everyones entitiled to their own opinion, but Rooney has never impressed me as much as he has everyone else. Messi has.
Dont get me wrong, he's a good player now, and in time, he'll improve somewhat.
But i simply dont think that he's anywhere near as good as people make out at the moment.

I sorta agree with dannyjo22 as well.
While i dont think players really improve skill wise, they do however improve with their choices in a game(like when to pass and when to shoot), and in their mentalitys (allowing them to control tempers & nervousness before a big game better).

how does shev rank in the world strikers league?

ive seen a few videos of him on the net but as far as i can see hes like another ian rush - lethal in the box nothing special as long as u give him the ball

Ok but Chelsea's first game of the Prem after they'd signed Dessailly (check spelling) about 6 yrs ago was against Coventry and Huckerby and Dublin ripped them apart if I remember.

Frank Lebouef said afterwards Huckerby was the best forward in the prem.

So being like Huckerby isn't all bad..

Its an insult to the likes of Henry & Sheva to count Rooney amongst their names.
He's good. He'll become one of the best, but at the moment, he's not a patch on either of those two players.
And the sooner this country realises it, the sooner its fans can stop panicing about Englands chances at the WC.
I'll leave Gerrard out there as well, as he's not a striker or a forward. :p
I have to disagree, Rooney is certainly up there.

I'm a Leeds fan.

I watched Darren Huckerby get the ball, put his head down and run to the byline with zero end product for years.

Fast. But crap.

World Strikers League?
If you watch enough of Sheva, you'll see that he's excellent in every area.
He's got skill. He's fast. He's good in the box. He's good one on one. He's good at range. He's good at freekicks. He's good at headers. He's strong on the ball.

As I've said it a few times in the past, I do agree with dj22 to some extent. While players do improve over time in terms of experience, positioning etc, it's very rare I see a top player be twice as good at age 28 compared to what he was like at at age 20 (obviously I'm only talking about people who were internationals at that age, not latecomers like Ian Wright). Of course things are a bit different for goalies/defenders who tend to benefit more from the 'experience' type attributes I mentioned above.

Yes, injuries may have affected players like Owen and Ronaldo, but the fact remains that they aren't going to suddenly hit their peak in a year or two. Forwards who are ~World Class in their early 20s often don't live up to the OMGOMG-imagine-how-good-he-will-be-in-5-years-time! hype. How about Del Piero, Raul etc, they were genuine quality 10 years ago, yet we didn't see a great deal from them in their late20s.

Basically what I'm getting at is that 'wunderkids' generally don't improve with age as drastically as your more average players. I'm loathe to try and quantify this but in laymans terms you could say that a wunderkid only improves say 15% compared to say an average player improving 30%. What sets them apart is the fact that they are very close to their peak at a very young age.
