I just thought i'd post my tips for anyone wanting to back a few horses over the next 4 days. I'll give 1 in each race and state whether to back it to WIN or EW.

Tuesday:

2.00 - Buena Vista EW 3rd 14-1
2.35 - Missed That WIN 6th
3.10 - Hardy Eustace WIN 3rd
4.00 - A Glass In Thyne EW FELL
4.40 - Just In Debt EW 10th
5.20 - Brandon Mountain EW PU

Remember, back for the fun of it and don't risk more than you can afford. Small stakes only.

I'll update the results after each race.

Good luck. :)

Cheers for those. I am off there tomorrow, leave here at 7am on a coach with 26 of us from our local boozer.

Ahh, lucky you.

It's a tough day to pick a winner and i'm not confident on any of my selections. I won't be able to resist having a bet though. :)

Any tips for tommorrow?

I may have a flutter or two in between pints o' Guiness and a posh lunch.

I'll put my Wednesday selections up later on.

It has been rumoured that the first ever £1,000,000 bet will be placed on a single horse today. The gambler and horse in question are RUMOURED to be JP McManus and Brave Inca in the Champion Hurdle (3.15). Crazy!

Let's see if Wednesday is any more profitable than Tuesday was.

2.00 - Refinement 3rd 11-2 EW
2.35 - The Listener Fell
3.15 - Dempsey Brought Down
4.00 - Mr Quasimodo Unplaced
4.40 - Better Days Withdrawn at start
5.20 - Perce Rock 4th

Good luck. :)

well i am just back from Cheltenham. Don't tell the missus but I touched lucky. The two winners I had were 8-1 an 6-1. The smart lads amongst us opened accounts with all the major bookies to take advantage of their free bets. Best one was Coral's with a 50 quid free bet for a 25 pound stake. Ladbrokes gave 60 for 30 and Willy Hills similar freebies.

Voy Par Ustedes and Dun Doire have done me proud. Might take the rest of the week off just to enjoy the racing. What a race the Champion Hurdle was, I really thought Hardy Eustace was going to nick it from AP but it wasn't to be.

Either way, great day. Great people. Great wins :D

Good to hear you had an enjoyable AND profitable day. :)

I've never been to Cheltenham. I'm going to try and go next year. I already have a horse in mind for next years Gold Cup! I'll give you a clue...it runs tomorrow! ;)

I backed it e/w, paid for my day out. Woohoo! :)

You wouldn't have made much profit on that one. :)

I've had a disasterous first 2 days. I feel slightly more confident for tomorrow though.

Thursdays 'Tips'

2.00 - Chilling Place EW Unplaced
2.35 - Armaturk EW Unplaced
3.15 - No Refuge EW Unplaced
4.00 - Non So EW 1st 14-1 :p
4.40 - Basilea Star Win Fell
5.20 - Carlys Quest EW Unplaced

Good luck and don't forget, bet for the fun of it. If you are going to back them, do so at small stakes. :)

Me too. I'm completely losing confidence.

I've had a really bad time of it over the last 2 1/2 days.

At last. Non So wins at 14-1. The good thing about Cheltenham is that it only take one decent priced winner to pull you out of the mire! :)

I do thhink far from trouble has a great chance though

Unlucky mate. 3rd.

My selection, Basilea Star fell. :( That's the main reason i prefer flat racing over NH racing. I've had loads of fallers this week. It's frustrating not to get a run for your money.

Aye, the one time during the day i dont pick a higher priced horse and 1st/2nd are 33/1 and 20/1

Come on carlys quest!

Carlys Quest nowhere. :(

Form from last year:-

1 Carlys Quest (GB) Ferdy Murphy 11 11-12 K J Mercer 25/1
2 9 Kadoun M J P O´Brien 8 11-12 A P McCoy 14/1...

It actually beat the horse that won the race by 9 lengths in Ireland last year. Strange!

Ah well, there's always tomorrow.

afraid I know nothing about betting, but put a bit of a dabble on for the Gold cup....
4 bets...

Beef or Salmon - EW - 11/2
Celeestial Gold - EW - 9/1
Turnium - EW - 1000/1
Astonville - EW - 1000/1

I wouldn't put you off the 1st two in your list but please don't waste your money on those other 2 donkeys. They both ran in the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday and were beaten after half a mile! Instead of doing them, put the money on Desert Quest in the 520.

Turko 200 EW Unplaced
Travino 235 EW3rd 6-1
Beef or Salmon 315 WinUnplaced
Harbour Pilot 400 WinPU
Sharp Rigging 440 EWUnplaced
Desert Quest 520 (nap) Win 1st 4-1

I hope no more horses are killed today. There have been 7 fatalities in the last 3 days. I fear for certain horses in the Gold Cup...fast ground, big field and strong pace. Lets hope i'm wrong! :(

They both rightly ended up as non-runners. Hope you took my advive and invested on Desert Quest. I had a slow start to the week but 14-1 and 4-1 winners as well as a few winning EW bets made me just about level for the week.

The only down side is that there have been a total of 9 horses killed over the 4 days. :(

can anyone explain how e/w bets pay out? i'm completely clueless but stuck a fiver on hedgehunter (2nd in the main event) and won 32.50 back with odds of 14/1 i think. how do you get to that figure? :o

cheers.... :)

You shouldn't have got £32.50 back for a 14-1 2nd.

For a place in the Gold Cup you should have got a fifth of the odds. £5 EW on Hedgehunter @14-1 should have got you £19 back. If your bookmaker was generous then you may have got one quarter the odds for a place. This would mean that you would get £22.50 back.

Quite how they got the winnings as £32.50 i've no idea!

ah i see..... 14/1 with my £5 would have netted me 70 if i won. 1/5 of that is 14 plus my stake back = 19. i can see how you got there..... :D

but the funny thing is, as i went to collect my winnings, there was a discrepency over my slip (bookies fault), and i told a guy next to me that i had 5 e/w on hedgehunter and he immediately said i should get ~30 back.....

anyway, i'm up 20 notes so it can't be bad. :D

Yes, if Hedgehunter had won, you would have got another £70 (plus your £5 win stake back) on top of your EW winnings.

I actually divided the 14-1 by 5 and then mulitplied it by 5(£) and added your £5 stake. It seems to work your way as well.

What's the name of this bookies? I may back there in the future! :p
