Apparently it takes about a month for a cheque to properly clear and be 100% bounce-free :S

Can't you use Poopal?

Just wait till you have received the Cheque, then pay it into your Bank Account, wait till the funds have cleared and are able to draw them out, then there is no way the Cheque can bounce/the person reclaim the funds at a later date

If you want to be certain, get the cheque specially presented. Should cost you no more than £15.00, but give you definite fate of the cheque.
