Does anyone know if banks do a service where you can get cheques cleared quicker than the standard 3 working days?

Not holding much hope tbh but I'd like this cheque I have to clear before the weekend.

Individual banks do this, cheques in my business and current accounts are available straight away.

You can ask a bank if they will do special clearance, but it's not something they really offer any more (although it really depends who you speak to on the day, and who they speak to at the clearing house).

Incidentally, cheques never really 'clear', the cash can still be taken back from your account at any point if there is a dispute, even if you have withdrawn it.

Can you ask for a small overdraft to cover the cheque?

I may be wrong but you can sign cheques over to be paid as cash rather than banked in, but I thought you could only do that on your own personal cheques.

I've noticed one thing with Cheques recently, they seem to clear a lot quicker.. I paid one in on Wednesday and it cleared Friday morning last week, its never been that quick before, normally takes 5 working days from that person.
That said there was something on the radio about a system being put in place to speed things up.
