Just watching River cottage and I've known this for a while. But I have to admit I didn't think it would be that high, value chickens are. 12.7% fat. For an example birdseyes burgers are 13%.

And corn fed chicken where even higher.
Whilst free range chickens had 25% less fat.

What I was surprised about and didn't know was chicken originally contained a lot of omega 3. But they need greens to produce it so the only chicken to contain significant amounts are free range.

So those on a diet or trying to watch fat content, think about what chickens you buy.

Yeah this has changed a lot over the past few decades due to changes in conditions and diet.

Theres not much meat produce nowerdays that isnt farmed that is basically low in fat.

You can choose between Nice plump tasting chickens, or! organic stringy, dry chicken, its your choice.

there's lots of good meat out there, if you go to a butcher and willing to spend slightly more, or buy cheaper cuts that taste better than more expensive cuts.

Many people cannot afford the organic foods over normal chicken prices, never mind chicken bought into a butchers.

They now breed chickens which are basically just a ball of meat on legs. I think it's an outrage. I would never eat spherical chicken. Down with all spherical meats.

Don't even get me started on pork belly. It's a thing of wonder (great crackling, succulent meat), yet is a cheap cut. How does that work? I would be tempted to complain, but I think I'll just enjoy the cheapness. :)

You say that now, but once you've accidentally cooked one for far too long and realised you can use it as a football...

You'll never known how well the chickens have been treat despite it being organic, you will never known unless you own a chicken farm.

it's brilliant, stew in the oven for a few hours, before eitehr roasting or quickly frying to crisp up, Same as ribs. 6 hours in the oven covered in water. Then dipped in what ever sauce you gnat then roasted for 20mins. They are fatty though.

Which reminds me on pay day, I will have to make some bbq ribs.

When i use to live in cyprus, we use to get bags of ribs, really good ones too and bbq them up all the time, back in the day Cypriots use to class the ribs as waste! which was always good.

Too bad its the wrong type of omega 3 as its the plant based one and has far less health benefits than that of the fish oil omega 3 u are thinking about

Actually it's converted into the same thing, it's just converted slower and MAY increase prostate cancer rates.

Sorry I missed the correlation between percentage fat and "healthy".

I assume from the OP you are assuming it is inversely proportional?

Also I am annoyed you are claiming that Birds Eye's burgers are "chicken". Do you call beef unhealthy because there is fat in McDonald's bugers?

What I mean is people use chicken as a healthy low fat meat.
I'm not claiming birdsyes burgers are chicken confused:
I don't call beef unhealthy, it was just a comparison, so people who don't know have something to compare it with.

That's different, it's been skinned and it's the less fatty part of the bird.

AcidHell is on about a whole chicken here.
