Chicken sell by dates...

I will quote you on this too just to point out the oddity of your statement! :p

Sell by date and use by date are norm different, and normally both quoted, aren't they?

When exactly are you planning on eating it?

Chicken is dodgy and dangerous, it could cluck you up.. for a couple of quid best to get another.

well we have trucks going about saying edinburgh council on em :P were right on the border of east and west lothian so technically edinburgh :P

Sell by dates are always early. What do you think people did before them? They looked at it and thought "it's fine". Your parents, grandparents, their parents and so on never had them and it didn't kill the human race off back then! A basic test for meat in a packet is if the plastic film over the top has "inflated" and bubbled, its probably off. If its still flat or slightly limp its fine.

Agreed. In this health and safety day and age, food producers will leave a fair 'safety gap' to avoid litigation.

that is correct

but.... if the meat has not been stored in the optimum conditions then it will turn a lot faster

even so, sometimes you can be very unlucky and get a piece of meat that just hasnt lasted for unknown reasons
