Greenpeace protesters have chained themselves to seats in McDonald's restaurants throughout Britain. They are against the fast food chain's alleged involvement in Amazon rainforest destruction.

The activists, dressed in chicken suits, occupied McDonald's outlets in London and six other British cities.

The environmental pressure group said it was demonstrating against the purchase of soya from the rainforest used to feed McDonald's chickens.

Greenpeace spokesman Pat Venditti said rainforest was being cut down to build Soya farms.

Mr Venditti said: "McDonald's is fuelling a trade that's trashing the Amazon. Rainforest is being illegally cleared to make way for Soya farms to feed animals in Europe."

The charity said it had investigated the Soya trade and linked it to McDonald's.

"Every time you buy a Chicken McNugget you could be taking a bite out of the Amazon," Mr Vendetti said.

"McDonald's is super-sizing Amazon destruction."

Greenpeace said activists had chained themselves to stores in Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol and Southampton.

Anyone for lunch?

Think I might try and find where they are in London and sit right in front of them eating some chicken nuggets, seriously though don't these people have more constructive things to do with their time

things like this remind me of that Futurama episode where they take that tanker with 6000 hulls near the penguin preserve on pluto. that protester's holding a sign up to the ship and he says "i hope they read my sign!" no particular relevance, it just makes me laugh.

"controversial? oh my, no!"

it's just another protest. this is the constructive thing they do with their time. live and let live, and all that.

waste of time, I highly doubt that McDonalds will listen to them, maybe they should all go out and get a job

maybe some people choose to spend their lives standing for what they believe in. not everyone wants to be millionnaires and movie stars
