Excuse my ignorance when it comes to the CSA... but why don't you just sort it out between you, as adults - instead of getting some Agency which seems to make a balls of everything to do it?
Well Steve - Two reasons :
1) it all boils down to benefit fraud.
The CSA gets involved when 'Mum' is claiming benefits, and NOT declaring the money she is getting from 'Dad'. So the benefits (read 'tax credit') are greater.
Therefore the CSA FORCE themselves to get involved, so that 'dads' money is accounted for, and mum stops being able to commit benefit FRAUD, saving YOU AND ME AND ALL THE OTHER TAXPAYERS money.
Of course mum and dad are livid, thinking 'we have a private arrangement, we're all happy, WTF is the CSA doing forcing us to change? What cretins.' .. They don't understand the reasoning, and of course they personally may not be performing such fraud, but how is the CSA to know?
2) mum can turn bitter
At which point she says 'he never gave me ANY money' - he says 'OH YES I DID', she says 'OH NO YOU DIDN'T' and he finds he has to give her another £18,000 plus interest. Because she's greedy. At which point HE has to claim a load of benefits to survive, and the TAX PAYER (thats you and me) get stung AGAIN.
And of course you get muppets who set up their own system IN ADDITION to something the CSA is trying to work out. Honestly, how people like that ever THINK the money is going to be formally accounted for by the CSA beggers belief. Remember it is unacceptab le to GIFT your money away to your ex-wife or your kid or ANYTHING ELSE if it means you will be claiming more benefits. But no-one seems to GET IT! They just think the CSA is retarded and what business has it got questioning the money you give you your kid. If only they understood the CSA's actual remit --
TO SAVE THE TAXPAYER MONEY
The CSA is primarily for the benefit of you and me the taxpayer -- to stop cons.
