Hi there

This year Overclockers UK are getting behind the BBC Children in Need Campaign, and we are hoping you will get behind it too by donating to this worthy cause.

Their aim is to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK. For every penny you give, a penny will go to children experiencing behavioural or psychological disorders; living in poverty or suffering through illness, distress, abuse or neglect.

We've set up our fund raising page at JustGiving.com/Overclockers-UK so just visit this page and make your donation!

Lets not only hit the target guys, lets smash it and show everyone how great OcUK forum members, staff and customers are! :)

Is OcUK doing anything to raise the money, to stand out from the crowd/give people more of a reason to donate? Otherwise, surely it's just easier to give directly to them, cutting out Just Giving's commission, lol.

Most staff members have contributed including Spie himself and the simple fact is many people will be unaware, we are making people aware. :)

So no, then ;)

I'll donate through this if you organise a fancy dress day at the office, otherwise I'll donate directly.

We could do but it has limited reach.

As such instead were about to take the awareness up another notch with banners featured directly on our website, forums and landing page just to ensure as many people see this as possible. :)

Just Giving take a 5% fee, plus a transaction fee depending on how you donate

Breakdown of the 5% they take:-

Our 5% fee goodness

Charities pay a 5% fee on donations (which we take from the Gift Aid we reclaim) and in return we help them raise more money, more efficiently. By leaving the costly and time-consuming stuff to us, they can spend more time, energy and money on doing good.

Here’s what we’re busy doing for our 5% fee
Running, monitoring 24/7 and constantly improving JustGiving’s technology so it can handle high levels of traffic while meeting the latest security and banking standards.

Constantly creating new fundraising tools and services for charities, at no extra cost.

Taking full responsibility for the Gift Aid we claim on charities’ behalf, being regularly audited by HMRC.

Providing dedicated customer service for charities and their supporters, giving prompt and expert advice.

Giving charities full access to their data, helping them track and analyse their fundraising success.

Providing free training and support to charities (especially the small ones) on how to raise even more online.

Giving you a clean, junk-free experience. We’ll never spam you, sell you anything or pass your personal details on to a third party. Ever.

Here’s how we charge our 5% fee
1.You donate £10 and we send it to your charity that week.
2.We reclaim Gift Aid from the government (which takes a month), adding £2.50 to your donation.
3.We take our 5% fee from the Gift Aid, with credit/debit card/PayPal charges, and send all the rest to the charity. So for every £10 you give, the charity gets over £12, and they get it faster.

Your donation - £10
Gift Aid - £2.50

Our 5% fee - £0.63
Credit card fee @ 1.30% - £0.13
Total cost to charity - £0.76

Total donation - £11.74

MasterCard debit card (16p),
PayPal (1.45%),
Visa debit (17p).

If your donation isn’t eligible for Gift Aid, we take our 5% fee from your donation. Because over 85% of donations through JustGiving are eligible for Gift Aid, charities always end up raising more with us.

Charities also pay a monthly subscription fee of £15 + VAT for our service. http://www.justgiving.com/charities/

HI there

First of all thanks to all those who have contributed to this cause whether it be via OcUK page or direct, its a great cause. :)

Secondly I am ashamed by some of the members here.

Lets just take a look at something here:-

OcUK Staff donations totalling over £1200 out of our own pockets. If we'd not have done this most staff would have never of thought of donating simply because of them not being aware of the event.

OcUK using its own marketing spaces - Banner on homepage, banner on forums, we even E-shotted this on our weekly deals. Might I remind you our banners and E-shot are used for pushing products we sell which make us profit. We've put selling of products to one side and given that exposure to getting the message across to as many of our customers as possible to donate. Here you can clearly see our E-shot:-

Any product placed on this mailer see's a massive upturn in sales, but we used this space to get the message out there to get people donating.

The facts are we've raised over £2000, which is £2000 going to UK kids which they'd not have got if we'd have done nothing. It is shocking how some people can complain about us trying to raise money and trying to suggest Spie should donate his car, what a joke. People should not preach such crap if they are not will to do as they suggest themselves.

So thank you to all those who donated whether via the justgiving or directly, it all adds up and is what counts. :)

Gibbo, it was me whom suggest Spie donated his car but it was also clearly stated that I was joking.

That said, I felt I made a suitable donation in turn.

EDIT;

Sorry, I have noticed someone else told him to sell it and donate the cost. Was it this chap you were referring too?

Yes.

I don't think it was about donating being compulsory as that is not the case at all, I think it was the main issue of members on here being disrespectful to OcUK and to charities in general and this thread had to be moderated strictly which is a shame really considering when we are trying to promote and generate as much money to the good cause.

This.
