Children not allowed squash in school !

Sorry but I don't force my kids to eat drink things they don't like , Don't get me wrong I encourage them to try everything but you can tell when your child doesn't like things or is faking not wanting to eat/drink them .

I'm not trying to be offensive but this does read as if you are led by your children rather than them by you.

So my eldest (10) came home from school last week telling me he is not allowed fruit squash in his drinks bottle at school .
Problem being is that he doesn't like plain water and this is all they're saying he is allowed and they have made him throw away his squash everyday .

Any suggestions on how to get around this or if there are any laws etc that say they are allowed to do this or not

Kind regards Luke

Are you for real ?

Please be a parent and get your kid to drink water, unless of course you think it's not good enough for him. I think your school is doing you a huge favour.

We were only allowed bottled water at school too. I guess if you spilled it made less of a mess also probably makes the kids go hyper with the sugar content. Supposedly anyway.

He is, with added squash, what is wrong with that?

I didn't like pure water when I was younger either, I still don't like it that much.

So I offer my child a water melon , He doesn't like it so therefore I am not going to force him to eat it as that in my mind is physical abuse ! My children are given choices .

I think you would stand alone in saying am I for real and suggesting I am anything other than a parent .

Please understand when I make my child a drink or he does it himself he has roughly 5ml of juice to 95ml of WATER as an example as it gives it taste unlike water on its own here all metallic tasting , and he drinks roughly 1-2 litres per day depending on heat etc . I am extremely up to date on what my children need drink wise due to a daughter with tumours on both her kidneys

Hack into the school's network and send out notifications that children can only bring Redbull to drink. Then sit back and watch the world burn!

Think of it rationally... Water is important so why taint it with additives, all I'm saying is that anything in excess borders on being bad for you.

Like you I'm not keen on water but have you tried bottled / filtered ?

Reason for the no added sugar rubbish is because its already packed full of natural sugars etc...Robinsons, cheap brands etc...all the same.

Read the label, its still no good.

I take it you are not a parent then.

I'm a parent, so I hope this qualifies me to comment...fruit juices which are sugar free are full of aspartame and other un natural chemicals. When you say your kids don't like the flavour of water, so what? It's sustenance, not flavour that should be important. Have you tried bottled water if your tap water isn't nice? Also cut a lemon and squeeze it in for a natural flavour with no crap in it. Come on now, don't complain about the schools stance as its a perfectly good one.

Send him to school with his squash, but give him a triangular flapjack to fight off the teachers with?

Or you could REALLY think outside the box and have a chat with the staff?

If a child does not like plain water, they will not drink it.. I would rather my child drink some weak juice than not drink anything for the whole day, especially of it is hot. Im sure my child's learning would be impacted more by dehydration rather than a bit of sugar in their juice bottle.

My child (five years old) actually likes water but he does not drink enough during the day. We were told that the teacher does not have time to remind him to drink as they have a lot of other pupils. I appreciate that there are crouded classrooms but dehydration is a real danger during the summer months.

I don't get it. I'm sorry about your daughter and even with this staring you in the face you're happy thinking 'squash' is ok ?

Seriously ?

It is not perfectly good at all. It really does not matter what a child dislikes you know that unless you force them to do something they will not do it.

My little girl dislikes jacket potato, shes eats every other kind. When she has tried it she gags, should I make her eat it? no. Water is very bland. I hope that the teachers lead by example then, no coffee or tea just water? AS long as the child is not drinking fizzy drinks all day long then I would be happy that he / she is drinking juice. I would imagine they will grow out of it anyway.

Nonsense water and jacket potatoes can not be compared. All children should cherish water, and its a parents fault if its seen as a poor, unflavoured choice of hydration. It will be them that has helped them form said opinion.

lets get a few things cleared up

I cant get to the school as I am recovering from brain surgery as many people have said go talk to them

He doesn't like plain water but will drink it with weak diluted squash as it is flavour . People going on about you need water to live it is substanance etc - Read what I just put . Squash contains WATER at a ration of 5% squash and 95% water .

I don't get it. I'm sorry about your daughter and even with this staring you in the face you're happy thinking 'squash' is ok ?

Seriously ?

Squash contains WATER I am not giving it to him neat !!

God, I'm pleased I went to school when I did.

Fizzy drinks, coffee, chips, cheese, sausage rolls etc, the student had the responsibility of what to eat......

Heck we could even run around outside, kick footballs, play fight and the school was open when it snowed.

Here here but now I've got no arms or legs, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and arthritis in my teeth.
