I'm flying to Santiago in Chile for new year and planning to do about 3-4 weeks driving around Chile, Argentina and Paraguay before returning to Brazil. I don't have many firm plans so I'm looking for recommendations for some interesting places to visit along the way. I want to stop by the Atacama desert, go to some of the vineyards in Mendoza, see some of the remote working communities in Paraguay and then head off to Maragogi in Brazil.

Any advice for things to do along the way would be greatly appreciated.

Don't underestimate the distances required and the time it actually takes to drive. Santiago to Atacama is 3 days of driving and once north of conception is mostly single lane with lots of lorries going back and forth to the mining areas.

La serena is a great stop and Atacama has plenty nearby to do, but is the most touristy place we found in all of Chile we saw. Unfortunately you're going north but if we go again we'd be heading south and to the lakes and torres del Paine as mentioned above.

Ahh Paraguay, one of my favourite countries in the world, been twice.

Where exactly will you be entering Paraguay? I did the drive from Asuncion going to Encarnacion with a few stops along the way. Crossed the bridge and spent a few hours in Argentina, that was an interesting experience.

Went a different route for the drive back and had another few stops. I'll have a look at the Stars on my Google Maps for the places that are worth seeing.
