Hi all, currently got 2 chimney breasts in my house. One of them I want to block up, board over and fit a radiator too and the other i've opened up more in the hope of fitting a log burner in the near future.

I'm just wondering if I need to fit an air vent of some kind into the chimney breast that I am blocking up on the ground floor?

The two upstairs bedrooms both have largish open/close wall vents fitted on the chimney breasts in the rooms. Are these still required too?

Ok so I definitely need one.

Should I go for plaster, plastic or metal ones or is that purely down to what is going to match your decor the best?

Can you fit a vent on the outside of the chimney breast?.
Ive done this, put a large air brick on the outside, saves getting cold into the house.

It's a semi-detached so the chimney breasts back onto each other in the middle of the 2 houses so not sure i'd be able to use an external vent?

Think I might go for a similar option. Would I be OK with the radiator being fitted in front of the vent on my chimney breast? Aside from heat leaking out and up the chimney breast when that rad is on will it pose any other issues?

The rad in my bedroom is in front of the the old fireplace, doesn't seem to cause any issue. In fact it's probably the best place for it - will stop the wall becoming damp in winter.
