The Chinese Government has busted a second alleged plot to carry out terrorist activities during the Beijing Olympic Games in August.

Officials said overnight that they had uncovered a pilot to kidnap athletes and foreign journalists, with the group also in possession of explosives.

It is understood that the group was sympathetic to Islamic terrorist activities, with officials saying they found Jihaddist literature.

During the investigation and bust-up, Chinese investigators also found explosives, including dynamite - along with other toxic materials.

It is the second such group to be found in China wanting to carry our terrorist activities during the Beijing Olympics.

The first such group was located during January, when Chinese police claimed they had uncovered a plot to target hotels and Government buildings.

The Chinese now say they have arrested up to 35 people during the latest sting - added to that the first set of arrests.

Security is likely to be extremely high during the Beijing Games this August, with hundreds of thousands of western tourists, media, athletes and officials descending on China for the games.

If its real(they do have video footage) Then good on them:)

I heard on the radio that the Arrested people confessed to it all, It amazing how quick the Chinese can get information out of people:p

This has to be taken with a pinch of salt coming from the country that is famous for it’s censorship.

Infamous, surely ;).

What exactly is that supposed to mean though? Floor cleaner is toxic, polish is toxic. What a stupid thing to say.

If i can find the Video it said what they really had.

That article was a bit **** poor compared to the proper TV news TBH:p

They had planned to poison meat and had all sorts of chemical gasses according to the news

Heres a video one:)

Yes its amazing how quick Chinese can get their information out to people...and lots of it...it keeps on coming doesnt it? "The Dalai Lama's a serperatist," "There is no problem in Tibet, the people here love us for developing there land into a concrete jungle, we dont kill monks, or torture etc...(ps.No journalists in TIBET!) hmmm wonder why. And what happens when they do send journalists into Tibet? Oh look, the monks are crying before the cameras and saying how badly they get treated, and just for doing so, and showing up the Chinese governmental policy for what it REALLY IS...they're now going to get tortured and killed. PEACE LOVING MONKS, guys that actually give a damn about even the smallest of life, from humans to insects...and then you got some brutal ignorant chinese soldier coming along and destroying something of so much beauty...just like the country itself was once beautiful untill China came and concreted it all over, cut down the forests and started building missile silos all over it.

The Chinese government is a huge propoganda machine, and I am happy to say I went to protest and stand for tibet, and maybe China, if you respected Tibet and human rights a bit more, you would have a problem free torch relay. The torch stands for fairness, equality, freedom of speach, humanity, respect, and above all human rights. You have none of these. The proof is in the pudding. The least you can do is respect the people of Tibet, which as mounting evidence against you shows you cant. So get out.

Heres a better report to it.

Chinese authorities have detained 45 East Turkestan "terrorist" suspects, and foiled plots to carry out suicide bomb attacks and kidnap athletes to disrupt the Beijing Olympics, a police spokesman said.

Uighur militants have been agitating to establish an independent East Turkestan in China's predominantly Muslim northwestern region of Xinjiang bordering Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Chinese authorities cracked two "terrorist" groups, one of which belonged to the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), Ministry of Public Security spokesman Wu Heping told a news conference in Beijing.

ETIM was listed by the United Nations as a terrorist group in 2002 and has links to Al Qaeda.

The group asked its members to do trial runs using poisoned meat, poison gas and remote control explosive devices, Wu said.

Their aim was "to create an international incident with the goal of disrupting the Olympic Games", the spokesman said.

The first group, led by Aji Muhammat, bought explosive materials and carried out 13 test explosions, Wu said without giving the nationality of the ringleader.

Suspects in custody confessed they were ordered to commit suicide when arrested, he said.

Police detained 10 suspects and seized 16,000 yuan ($A2,500) in cash and a large quantity of "Holy War" training materials, Wu said. Several other suspects are on the run.

At the end of last year, the group ordered its members to enter China and had planned to be ready by April to carry out "terrorist" activities starting from May in Beijing and Shanghai, using explosives and poison, the spokesman said.

In the second case, authorities detained 35 people, seized 9.51 kg of explosives, eight detonators and some "Holy War" propaganda material, Wu said, adding that the group had planned to kidnap foreign journalists, tourists and athletes.

The second group also planned to carry out suicide bomb attacks in Xinjiang's regional capital Urumqi and other cities in China, the spokesman said.

It had been secretly recruiting people "willing to sacrifice their lives for Jihad", or holy war, Wu said.

"We are facing a real terrorist threat. All walks of life and the public should maintain a high degree of vigilance," the spokesman added.

Oil-rich Xinjiang is home to eight million Uighurs -- a Turkic, largely Islamic people who share linguistic and cultural bonds with Central Asia. Many resent the growing presence and economic grip of Han Chinese.

Last month China foiled a bid to cause an air disaster on a passenger jet en route to Beijing from Urumqi and the plane made a safe emergency landing.

In January 2007, Chinese forces killed 18 people described as terrorists in a gun battle in Xinjiang. One policeman was killed and another wounded in the raid on a training camp in the mountains of the Pamirs plateau in southern Xinjiang.
