Yes I am totally appalled and shocked. They reopen these "markets" aka "animal torture centers" while the whole globe is fighting a war against a virus that began there...

It is painfully obvious that China does not care.

**Contreversial opinion alert**
Unless your vegetarian/vegan then you have no place condemning China, this happens throughout the world.

I am not aware of any Western nation that comes anywhere even close to a wet-market. And in other parts of the world, they don't do it anywhere near the scale, diversity and magnitude that China does.

The Asian Flu in 1956 killed between one and four million people worldwide. SARS in 2002 infected 8,098 and killed 774 in seventeen counties. H7N9 emerged ten years later to strike at least 1,223 people and kill four out of every ten of them. Now the Coronavirus. All from China.

You telling me no attention should be payed to China on this topic because there are some other areas of the world that do it too on a much smaller scale?

I see your point mate, but if you think that all/most our slaughtered animals live a nice fluffy life prior to being bolted through the head without them realising it then you need to do a bit more research, or not.

Obviously you are a bit daft if you think a quick death to a cow via a bolt to the head is comparable to tossing a puppy into hot oil alive or eating bats that were cooked alive.

Sorry but it's all pretty brutal, the sad reality is, if you're food, nature and humans will not be kind to you and you will suffer a brutal death

Comparing that to Chinese wet markets is absurd. The Chinese go OUT OF THEIR WAY to torture the animals because they think the adrenaline of an excruciating death makes the meat tastier and they "absorb the animals energy".

This attempt to equate Western animal farming to Chinese wet-markets is pathetic.

It's equally pathetic to condemn the slaughter of animals whilst trying to morally justify the slaughter of animals because that slaughter is done "better"

Only a fool thinks in absolutes.

If you think there is no justification for not torturing animals before you kill them versus not torturing them because they both end in "death", there is no point in even debating such a ridiculous stance.

So tell me, before you are killed in war after being captured, why is it prohibited by the Geneva conventions to torture the person? In your eyes, both end in death, so torture away!

Oh and there is that LITTLE POINT that Western farming doesn't routinely create GLOBAL PANDEMICS.

In the aftermath of this, when the final body count is known and and everything has been tallied up, the human cost, economic cost - how do we think things will differ between the west and China?

I think change is inevitable, but exactly what it looks like I have no idea..

Honestly, even though when this is all said and done, with hundreds of thousands of lives lost (most outside of China where it began), the world is so f*ckd up that we will go back to the status quo. The West absolutely loves cheap Chinese goods and massive profits from cheap labor. The left in Western societies absolutely loves socialism and communism. Wet-markets will endure and we await the next pandemic. Here in the US, we have leftist reporters actively cheering China as some utopia. Never mind they didn't show you the people getting welded in their apartment buildings, or the people being killed if they were outside during curfew, or the people mass killing pets out of unfounded fears in China.

The left will use every advantage they can during this crisis to politicize this to try and take out conservatives like Trump and Johnson. All the while cheering China and their "better form of government".

that is laughable - watch super size me 2 and come back and say that with a straight face.

mad cow disease
swine flu
avian flu
green chicken

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Size_Me_2:_Holy_Chicken!

the documentary explains how that chicken got green and guess what it's got nothing to do with looking after the chickens best welfare, the complete opposite. bred to specific qualities which means they have terrible lives. their legs snap under their own weight. they can't move and their hearts explode.

And those aren't anything compared to what has come out of China. And Avian Flu came out of Asia as a whole, not sure why you keep posting that as coming out of the West.

Yes, they operate on BS religious grounds and definitely need to be shut down. But still infinitesimally small operations compared to what goes on in China. And they don't deal with animals like bats and pangolins that carry deadly rare viruses.

I KNEW IT. THE LEFT SIDING WITH CHINA'S WET MARKETS. UNBELIEVABLE. The left is a morally corrupt cesspool.
