hey my mobo is about 1year old i think.. and its a ASUS A8N SLI deluxe... im pretty sure its still under waranty and stuff.. and i know i can easly get a new chip fan for it.. but at the mo im to lazy.. im just wondering.. if i disable the chipfan in the bios, to stop it from making this horible grinding sound.. will it cause the chip to overheat and die?.. i mean i think the chipfan isnt even spining properly anyway.. so would this be ok to do?

Yeah it would overheat and die, thats the whole point of having a fan on there, they aint just put on for decoration. :D

I read it as Chip Pan is Borked, was gona say GD is further down. :D

This ALWAYS happens with those boards. Ring ASUS and they'll send you a new fan. TBH you might get away without one for a while, depending on how cool your case is, though I wouldn't risk going like that for more than a few days.

With older chipsets it was more of a novelty and a noise maker, with an Nforce 4 mobo though i would'nt do it on a long term basis for sure.
