Chip fan problem

On booting my PC last night, I heard the BIOS beep code for a non-functioning chip fan, and a message on the POST screen said the same thing (Asus A8N-SLI SE).

I then checked for a faulty connector or similar, but there is nothing to incidate that this is the problem. On the first reboot everything was fine, but now I sometimes get the message, and sometimes don't. The fan never dies when I am using the PC - it just fails to start at boot-time every now and then.

I rely on the PC heavily so don't want to have to return the mobo if I can avoid doing so. Do any of you have any ideas about how i might fix this ?

Thanks in advance.

The machine is dust free, and I am not sure how a BIOS update would help. Surely the current BIOS should be perfectly capable of handling this? The board is only 4 months old, so am not sure this is the problem. Please do correct me if I am wrong. :)

Maybe not update (though you should keep it up-2-date unless some other reason), but BIOS can get corrupted. Lately I've found clearing the CMOS to be the cure of a few of my (small) problems. Besides what's there to loose apart from your BIOS settings which you can re-do :D

I've just done it, but wont know if it's fixed the problem till I've booted the machine a few times.

Thanks for the suggestion.
