Chip/Mobo compatibility?

I've sort of got the upgrade bug again now...

At the moment I have a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard with an E6300 chip. What I'm wondering is, would it be worth spending some dosh next month on building an i7 rig, seeing as I have a 4890 now (I guess my CPU will possibly be a bottleneck) or should I just swap the chip/HSF for something else?

My mobo is getting on a bit now so I'm not sure if it'd be compatible with a lot of the newer chips...

if you havent already overclocked your chip that would probably be a good option for a while untill prices drop a bit more

Aye, the i7's are quite expensive right now and I was debating getting one of the newer Quads but meh

I don't suppose there's any breakthrough coming out in the next month that will drive prices down?

I have a very conservative overclock on the CPU; I haven't gone mad because the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 I have doesn't seem to be performing as well as I'd like... saying that, I think I fitted it the wrong way round with the fan facing the back of the case, and I really can't be bothered ripping it out and fixing it at the moment

Well I was looking at spending up to about £500 next month. Maybe £600 if I can include a Solid State HDD but that seems a bit unrealistic unless I go for a smaller one just for the OS and swap file (is having swap on a SSD a good idea?).

I'd probably get another case as well tbh. At the moment I have everything else I need
