Being a pedantic git, I'm debating whether it's worth getting the two small scuffs on my car sorted (not my doing :p). One on the left wing mirror where it's probably caught another car's mirror and a hardly noticeable one about 2cm long on the front bumper.

How much do chips away (or any other good firm) usually charge for this sort of thing? :) (I tried getting a quote off their site but got an SQL error )

I know most people would probably not bother but if it's not that much then I'm happy to lay out the dough...

I asked regarding a 5 cm split in the paintwork of my rear bumper and a few scuff marks (from reversing a bit too much into a parking bay barrier). They said anything from £100-£200 but they would have to have a look first. Could not be bothered after that.

Not sure if each business charges a different price as Chips Away is a franchise.

The Chips Away guys who did my car were scum, they did a very poor job on my car. I had a small dent done on the nearside door which had to be fillered and sprayed but there is now a noticeable difference in the colour of the paintwork in that area (a roughly 6 inch in diametre patch), I asked them to come back and take a look as I was not happy with it and they have never turned up and just fobbed me of with excuse after excuse for not coming

I had used them before to repair some stone chips and they seems to be capable of doing small jobs like that but if the job is more substantial I would use a proper bodyshop and avoid Chips Away.

Cheers fellas,

I did find a few more local places... has anyone used SSCCR in SE London/Kent? I must say I did find the idea of some franchised random geezer turning up with a paintbrush a bit funny and without personal recommendations I'd be nervous.

The front two alloys have a few kerbing scuffs from the previous owner so ideally I'd like to get them refurbed, along with the wing mirror and bumper scuffs at the same time. Is this likely to be doable for less than say £250 at a body shop?

Thanks muchly.

Chips away made a complete hash of my MR2 when somebody scuffed the bumper. The repair was worse than the scuff, wish I hadn't bothered.

Have also used Chaips Away on a spot of rust on my old cars door. Came back with runs and the colour match was well off  Wasn't impressed and got away without paying and got it done properly at a bodyshop. I wouldn't use them again, but then it all depends on who's got the franchise in your area and if they are any good.

Hrm a bit of digging around on other forums seems to be a mixed bag of opinions. I'll just get the vaseline out and take it to a Body Shop I think. I think I will have to ask some people I know for independent recommendations - I don't fancy being royally rogered by the main dealer's workshop. :D

EDIT: Result, just found out my mate's next door neighbour works for a main dealer so should be able to recommend someone or at least give me an idea.

thats what id do.

you can just never get a good colour match when only partially repainting a panel.

If you're only putting a blob of paint on a 3mm wide scratch, you wont notice it, but once you're into the inches rather than mm to measure it, you're probably going to have to get the panel resprayed

Without any filling / pulling etc.. reckon on £100 per panel.

Cheers, I think I'll go for Body Shop and peace of mind - I'll get a recommendation off my mate's neighbour tonight. Chips Away did ring me and quoted £180 for refurb on 2 Alloys and the Wing Mirror but I'll pass.

I'm also wondering if refurbing the front 2 alloys might make the two rear ones look slightly tatty *shrug* even though they are very clean at the moment.

Ta muchly.

Another vote not to go with Chips away, I went to look at an MX5 who had a scratch on one of the rear panels "repaired".
The colour wasn't right and it was extremely noticeable, as well as being very dull; unlike the rest of the car which was immaculate.

Ive used them and been very happy.

The local guy is good and has done a few of the other company cars in my office.. good price too.

Lucky dip really depending on area

My mate owns a Chips Away franchise. I get a huge discount. They dont use the best paint in the world but does a good job. If im not satisfied he redoes it until im happy!

I get mates rates! :)
