Is your ECU buggered, you are trying to get some extra power or are you just hungry?

ECU buggered just find a matching ecu from a write off and have it coded if neccesary.

More power there will be plenty of people who will remap for a few hundred quid, however I'll be a waste of time on a vr6 unless its had other work I.e cams, exhaust ( even then its a waste of money IMO) I had a mk3 vr6 with a custom map and schrick ( i think) cams, different manifold plus supersprint system etc and it made......15bhp more than std. To be fair the delivery was improved but the previous owner must have spent 1k+ on it for next to nothing

If you're just hungry, aunt Bessie's

My Dad took the car to the garage and is convinced they've changed the chip somehow to make it slower. It's certainly slower. Thanks anyhow :)

What work were you having done to the car at the time? Surely they have better things to do than tamper with your ECU map unnecessarily.

Some ecu are adaptive to some extent, so if t he battery was disconnected for any length of time, possibly due to the work that was done, it can reset to factory settings, and will re adapt after a period, just a thought..

Really can't see why they would do that. What work was being done? Could either be something they did or something else coincidental.

MOT test apparently the lambda light used to keep coming on, on the dashboard after the MOT it stopped...

I've no idea what ECU is, can someone enlighten me :)

I had a 'trial' remap on my Octavia vRS MK1.

It never felt as good afterwards, despite being 'flashed back' to standard.

Makes me wonder whether the rumours of MK1 Octavia's producing more than the stated 180 BHP were true.

Worse thing I ever did and even the fuel economy was never as good as it once was.

It's a little black box, (engine control unit) a very basic computer which controls things like fuel mixture acording to its default 'rules' based on how much air is going into the engine, how open the throttle is etc.

Bold statement that :p

Not worth remapping an unmodified normally aspirated engine IMO.

Better?

Saying that, I'm not a fan of mapping cars.

Want something more powerful? Buy something more powerful in the first place.

The garage broke something and this put the ECU into limp home mode? - would explain the perceived drop in performance...

No engine warning light on?

I May be well off,it's just a thought...
