What exactly are the chipset drivers?

When installing win xp I installed the chipset drivers off my ds3p motherboard cd. But when I put the cd in after the visat install the cd wouldnt load(came up with an error) Iam dual booting by the way. If I remember correctly someone said vista installs the chipset drivers automatically. Is that right?

The CD probably wouldn't have recognized the Vista OS, so wouldn't load anything.

Not sure if Vista has the current i965 drivers included, but I'd recommend downloading and installing the current Intel chipset drivers from HERE.

Will vista not have installed the chipset drivers automatically, already? Can I check?

like xp, vista may or may not have drivers builtin for your chipset. either way, you're always better off using manufacturer provided drivers than the ones that ship with windows. :)

Ok, the link Digital Punk posted has four downloads could you tell me what ones I need please?

Yip. Tho you'll need to get the latest audio, SATA and ethernet drivers from either the Gigabyte website or their respective manufacturers websites.

Do I have to then after Ive updated the chipset drivers?

No you don't have to. But it's advised to because the drivers on the Vista dvd are several months old and will have been refined since it was released.

I installed this about 2weeks ago

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/common-vista32.html

got it from this thread

Will these be included in that install? Audio, SATA and ethernet drivers? :o

In device manager ive not got any 'yellow question' marks iff that helps.

Cheers for your help with this :D
