CHIPSET HEATSINK NOT DETECTED???

Believe or not! i had to send my pc to dell for repair
The original problem was the pci card lever(little bit of plastic at the bottom back of the case). So all dell needed to do was to replace the plastic.Of course they said they had to replace the entire case(which is not true imho)

Anyway i receive the pc today and boot it up and now it won't even boot or go to the setup screen. All i get is the above error message

Now does this error message relate to the chipset heatsink or the cpu heatsink
I have tried reseating both heatsinks and i still get the same error message

I have a dell e521 with a core-duo 6300 cpu(the cpu fan still spins)

Just trying for any pointers to see if i can fix the problme myself.Otherwose i will be sending it back to dell this friday, but of course i will be without my main pc for another week

Thanks

odd, can u open pc and post pic of the insides?

its impossible to say that the chipset heatsink is not detected, unless there is some kind of sensor for detecting a block of metal missing over the chipset.

im guessing what its trying to say is that the fan for the heatsink is not rotating, which is possible if they forgot to plug it in.

Th photo#s show the small chipset heatsink,The bix plastic cover(inside is the cpu and heatsink) And the fan connector.
One thing i would say about the fan connector is i have tried pulling it out but it deson't seem to want to come out.Maybe it's inserted the wrong way?
But as i say the fan still spins.Btw the fan is at the left had side of the big plastic cover

Fixed for you.

It won't be detected 'cos there isn't a fan.

Apparently that's actually what there is - just did a bit of Googling and it seems it's likely the motherboard has a circuit that runs through the clip that holds the heatsink on. I'm guessing one of the loops that holds that clip down might be loose or something.

Had this happen to a Dell machine at work. One of the loops that the chipset heatsink hooks under had pulled out of the board & the heatsink had fallen off. Rang Dell & they replaced the m/b. From the pictures it looks like the heatsink is still attached so I'd guess that one of the loops could have worked loose.

Both hoops are in place.Infact i have reseated the heatsink a few times

I too have seached for answers and it only seems to bring up these type of problmes with dell machines, mostly after the motherboard has been moved...
