I'm new to O/C, so just want some advice here. I'm running My AMD 64 X2 3800+ at 215Mhz and have rampted the x1800Xt's up to max on the ATI overdrive panel. The cards seem fine, as they both have accellero 2 cooling units. The CPU doesn't go above 40C really, but the chipset is running at 69C after playinf fear. I do have a cooler fan on the chipset, but I'm a bit worried that 69C is excessive.
Will this be ok, or should I reduce the CPU or graphics OC to preserve the chipset? What is a safe chipset temp?

Thanks
Mark

Does the chipset(cooler) actually feel hot to the touch?

If yes: you just need a better/higher rpm fan and/or more airflow in ** case to cool it or one of them huge thermalright chipset coolers...

If no( ie. just warmish or room/case temp) u need to reseat the chipset cooler and add some quality thermal paste to it (like as5).

I would do that instead of lowering my overclock...

I wouldnt call 69 C safe, i think it can take a bit more beating, i wouldnt be comfortable with it tho (the temps i mean)...

How is stability, if the pc is stable then its not that bad, if u have reboots or any probs, i'd be worried...

How embarrasing... The chipset lead had come unplugged from the board. OOOPS! It's now running about 10C cooler. The strange thing is that smartguardian still says the fan is not running, but I can see it is. Oh well...
Thanks for the advice Snowdog.
