hello just wondering, a lot of people on these forums seem to recommend nforce 680, toms hardware among other sites recommend 965p and it seems 975x is the latest. Just wondering why the 975x doesnt get recommended much.

As far as I'm aware the 965p chipset is newer than the 975x, the only benefit that 975x has is that it supports Crossfire. 965p boards hit the highest FSB speeds typically higher than 500MHz with a bit of luck, whilst the 680i boards can do 450-500MHz. 975x boards are in the 400-450MHz range.

but dont the majority of 965 boards use JPMicron chipset? i have read many bad things about this.. which is why im edging towards Nvidia 650i

It might depend on the manufacturer, but some of them use Intel southbridges for the SATA ports/RAID.
