Chirac wants to nuke Iran - then retracts statement

President Jacques Chirac said this week that if Iran had one or two nuclear weapons, it would not pose a big danger, and that if Iran were to launch a nuclear weapon against a country like Israel, it would lead to the immediate destruction of Tehran.

Strong Words but it looks like senility got the better of him when he let these "slip" out. What do you guys think, a blunt message to Iran, a senile old man's ranting, an unwanted glimpse of behind-the-doors policy, or...?

I must be missing something. Thats a man talking about the destruction of a city/country that launches a nuke at another country.

Sounds like common sense to me :/

I have absolutely no doubt that Israel would use their weapons without thinking twice. They've had so much crap thrown at them (Although to be fair they've thrown some back), they just do not take **** from anyone. Here again they're demonstrating that attitude.

So Chirac says Iran having nukes isn't a terrible thing, as if they were to use them against Israel they'd face immediate retalliation in the form of annihilation. He has a fair point, he's just stating the MAD principle.

I am pretty sure that some organisations wouldn't think twice given the opportunity. Al Quaeda for example. It depends on whether or not you stand to be hit back.

My guess is that it's for people who don't understand the implications of retaliation in relation to nuclear weapons (Or for people who don't know jack about politics).
