Why is it that when anyone locks or unlocks a car on TV, the car goes "chirp chirp" no matter what the model is?
I've not seen a car that has an audible warning on remote locking for years.

They obviously dub it in later but what's the point? Do they think that the public will think "OMG he didn't lock his car!" if they don't put the sound in?

I think it's like Frog noises (IIRC pretty much all frog sounds on TV are from a species local to LA), the film makers think people expect it, and it gives and audible cue for the audience.

Basically it's the film makers making very sure we know that someone's locked their car:p (that, and I expect habit).

The same reason why on CSI (or any film/tv show with computers being used) that every single key stroke and on screen movement has an audible blip or buzz.

They do a lot of silly things with sound effects in movies.

Eg..... nobody uses mice in movies because keyboards look and sound so much better. I dunno... maybe they're all still using ms-dos?

Just picking up a fire-arm will cause it to spontainously make metallic clicking sounds. Guns are small and dark, and are quite easy for the viewer to miss. They make it more obvious with all the silly gun noises.

I'm sure I hear random game sfx in some things I watch.

I know they both buy them from public sound libraries but it's amusing when someone shuts a metal door and it sounds like the one in Fallout3 or whatever :D

Game FX! You know the last level of Goldeneye64 when those automatic doors open and close? I've heard that exact same sound many times in films!

I always find it funny that most secret bunkers (whether they be US, Russian or mad Terrorist) appear to have the same doors. Some company is making a mint selling all those!

It's more likely the game used the sound from film fx ;)
IIRC there is/was one particular SFX library from the 70's that was used all over the place because it was the best single source for everything from "lasers firing" to "turrets popping up" to "door creaking", I think Doom or Castle Wolfenstein was one of the first games to use it, prior to that it had featured in films like Star Wars, 2001 and the like :) (and countless Anime).

Once you notice a particular SFX you'll spot it all over the place :)

Mine beeps when I unlock and lock it.
Doesn't make the classic "churp" you hear on the television, but it certainly makes a noise.
I prefer it that way - know for sure the car is locked and alarm armed.

I hate that they use the same scream for every single film. You know the one... someone has fallen from a height or got shot (but only if they're in the background during a battle) and they scream. 9 times out of 10 it's this scream.

Over and over you hear the same "Aaaaargh" as this man falls from wherever he is. :(
