chkdsk /x /r

I'm trying to find a windows based utility that can do the above without having to reboot, as I want to be able to do it whilst remotely logged onto a computer. Does such a thing exist? Or is rebooting necessary to force all open handles closed?

If its the OS partition, you will need to reboot.

Why not run a chkdsk, have it schedule it on reboot, then just bounce the box?

I'd like to avoid rebooting the machine altogether, but realise it's probably not possible.
