Ok so i'm looking for a camera, i dont want to fork out for a D-SLR so i'm looking at two which allow for full manual mode.

cam 1 is a Fujifilm finepix 4900zoom which can be had for £58 and cam 2 is s7000 at £148.

I'm just gonna use it to have a play about with really but im more drawn to the s7000 as it allows raw image capture where as the 4900 doesn't.

Have any of you guys got opinions on the cams, prices etc?

well, i dont really have one. It was a case of i saw the 4900 and as i dont have a camera i thought i'd buy it plus it was an added bonus that it could be used on manual, but then i found it it couldnt take raw photos. The fact that s7000 draws me to that be will the quality be top notch ?

I'm not proper looking for a camera but as i saw them i thought i would indulge for a play as i havnt used a manual for about 2 years now.

the only thing i found was on ciao is it? someone said that the high quality jpgs suffered from bad compression and that the raw ones had a lot of noise but being raw i thought they would have been fairly sport on ?

If you have no budget then get the Canon PowerShot S3 IS. I bought one for someone and they love it. They are using it lots and it has bucketloads of features. Quite similar all round to the Fuji's which I have no experience with but are supposed to be good.

I wouldn't point you towards a G7 to be honest. I like it too for its manual features and build but it is not worth the price over similarly performing cameras, especially not for someone just having a bit of fun. I would doubt you would notice a difference between the G7 and a A640 for example although the G7 is sexy :D.

RAW is nice but you may find that on a camera like the Fuji that it takes ages between photos for the size of a RAW file to write to card plus if you aren't really into using Photoshop then you are better shooting JPEG. I use RAW personally but I am using a DSLR with no saturation/sharpening applied so I do all that myself later in Photoshop.

The PowerShot S3 IS is mixture of metal and plastic and I liked the feel of it better than the similar cameras in the Super Zoom range: Fuji S6500, Sony H5, Panasonic Lumix etc.

Again, the Canon PowerShot S3 IS is a out of what i'd like to spend.

I'm really to fussed about times for capture and can do basic in photoshop but never looked into it for photography much.

As i said with those 2 i stated, i found them both on the MM and have said i would buy the 4900 but then found the s7000 so am more tempted towards that still...
