My birthday is coming up soon so I was thinking of treating myself to a decent wideangle for my 400D.

I was thinking of the following

Tokina 10-17mm AT-X 107 AF DX -
Tokina 12-24mm AT-X 124 AF Pro DX -
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM
Canon EFS 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

They all fit within the budget, does anyone own any of these lenses? Am interested in your thoughts as to which one I should get :)

Thanks!

I bought the Canon 10-22mm from a place online in HK, came quickly and the lens is absolutely amazing, cannot fault it.

If you want to save a bit (/a lot) of money, the Sigma 10-20mm would be my second choice.

I took most of the photos on my flickr page with the 10-22mm, examples here at the wide end (which is lots of fun):

There's a new Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 that's getting people rather excited about. Stock is slowly finding its way to the US (not very useful).

Photozone review

The Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX is currently the best ultra-wide angle zoom lens for Canon EOS APS-C DSLRs. The resolution is impressively high throughout the zoom range (albeit a short one) and across the image field. Vignetting is really only a problem at 11mm @ f/2.8 but otherwise the issue is very well controlled. The level of distortions is comparatively low. Typical for most Tokina lenses it has one weakness: lateral CAs which are very high at all settings. The build quality is on a very high level and its a joy to handle the lens out there. All-in-all a very sound package especially when considering the quite affordable price (around 600EUR/US$).

A lot of people consider the Canon to be relatively overpriced, but it holds value better than the third party lenses. Also, the Canon doesn't include a hood.

thats just thrown fuel on my fire - still debating between the sigma 10-20 and the canon 10-22 and wondering if the canon is worth the extra.

Now with this lens puts a third contendor in my options basket!
any idea of when they are due here!

it might have to be the sigma just on the price point basis - i know there is 'soft' copies of this lens and jsut hope i dont get a dud one.

I got three duds in the end of the Sigma.

You get what you pay for in the canon, thats what im getting if I decide to get that Vs a 70-200 F4 IS + 1.4 TC

how did you tell they were dud - was it noticable on back of camera screen or when you had the pics at monitor.
Just wondering if there is anyway to tell in store

At home, never looked at the screen tbh.

But I did a comparison of the 10-22 vs 10-20. On the far left the sharpness of the 10-20 was **** while center to right they were pretty equal.

Same story for the others, poor on one side or the other where one was poor all over.

Oh well. :)
