Yesterday I sold my RX 580 for basically what I paid for it and now I'm left searching for a decent replacement.

I'm looking for something that's capable of achieving high/ultra settings in most games at 1440p or 4k, and there's a few choices on the table... 1070Ti, Vega 56 or pony up that little extra on the budget for a 2070.

My budget is £400 notes and have been looking into all options for a few hours now and thought I'd reach out to you folks for some help.

I can raise the budget for a 2070 if the performance is there over the selection above, and of course I can always wait for the big day, Black Friday... although might go cold turkey by then?

I have to agree that the 20 series is a risky option, although leaning towards the 1070Ti more than Vega for 1440p purely for pricing, if both do an exceptional job why spend the extra?

It's arguably the best performing card around the £350 budget, but it is also around 10% slower than the Vega64.

The Vega56 should be able to maintain a solid 60fps+ in most games once overclocked, but for 4K it would definitely be falling short. For my overclocked Vega64, I found that it can maintain 45fps+ at 3200x1600 in Monster Hunter World, but it does fall short for 3840x2160 unless I turn the graphic settings way down (which I think look far worse than 3200x1600 with high graphic settings).

10% if you already managing 60fps+ it probably won't make much of a difference, but if using the Monster Hunter World example I mentioned as above, the difference between the overclocked Vega64 vs the overclocked Vega56 would be something like minimum 45fps vs 40fps...which the 5fps different can be quite a noticeable difference in perceived smoothness.

At the end of the day, it would be down to you to decide if you are willing to spend the extra as a long term investment for the return in better performance in gaming.

Well 1440p is my go to resolution and want to crank everything up to the max. Cheers folks for the advice, it's narrowed it down a little and no doubt by this weekend I'll have made my choice.

Might wait till Black Friday for further price drops.

For what its worth, I got rid of my GTX 1080 and got a Vega 64 and i'd never look back.

If you have a freesync monitor its a no brainer. The reality is that "unleashed" i.e framerates in the tripple digits the GTX 1080 may perform slightly better and draw less power but within the actual usable freesync ranges i.e 60 -120 odd fps they are pretty much identical with the Vega often offering up a bit more consistent experience.

Vega is a lot more tweakable but has maybe less out of the box performance than the offerings from nvidia.

All depends on you and of course your use case, but like I said, the combo of Freesync and Radeon Chill is great and as a whole the Radeon ecosystem is nice to use

Should it fit in a Corsair 500D?

Just had the same dilemma, but I added the slightly more expensive Vega64, 1080 and 2070 into the mix too, I have been looking at benchmarks for ages, months in fact then I decided to wait and see what the 2070 was like.
I have just ordered the 1070ti.. I’m expecting a good performance increase over my exsisting r9-290.

Leaning in the same direction as yourself, will make my decision soon... catching up on some reviews etc.

Watched a few YouTube videos last night with Hardware Unboxed and UFD Tech, 1070Ti vs Vega 56 and seem to trade blows equally in most games. With this in mind either will be a great choice only pricing will determine my decision.

As I stated earlier I have the budget for the 2070 RTX... but after watching Linus his opinion leans towards the 1080 as a better buy, I see his point.

I've been looking at the MSI 1070Ti Gaming, been given a good write up for silence and performance... it's nice to have more options for a change as I've never had the option in the past to splash the cash on something top tier.

1440p is ample for me, I know 4K is pushing it. The RX 580 was great at 1080p... but ramp it up and I could taste the difference in quality. The TV I have handled 1440p with ease, no custom setting was required but will look into that.

After watching several reviews on YouTube and scouring the net I just pulled the trigger on the Vega 56. For the price I'd be stupid to pass up on this for the performance offerings especially fine wine and with it matching the 1070Ti.
