hi i currently own a k8 hayabusa with 8000 miles on the clock with full history and power commander and mtc exhausts. the bike has been used through 3 winters and is starting to show it a little with a rusty bolt.

now the question is ive been offered a trade in of 5500 against a 03 999s or a 07 rl.

the 999s has full history one owner and 3000 miles on the clock and is currently on sale for 6299 with power commander and alarm.

the r1 has 4500 on the clock and two owners.

both will have full tax and mot and serviced. the dealer have offered 500 to swop for either with no bartering as yet and i an keep the cans and power commander to sell. im torn between which bike to go for. i like the idea of the 999s but am concerned with its age and resale. which would lose the most in a years usage the 999s or the r1. all suggestions and advice welcomed.\

this is a link to the bike

ive got a honda dominator as a 2nd bike so will only be used on nice sunny days. i havent checked but fairly sure belts will have been done.

thats easy then mate its the 999s. spoke to the dealer this morning and feels the 999 will hold its value better than the r1 and prob you lose much in a year and they are a yam dealer. love my busa but had it for 2.5 years and had old shape for 1.5 years so fancy a change

i had a test ride of about 4 miles on it and yes it was totally different position but not as uncomfortable as i expected. dont get me wrong it wasnt as comfy as the busa but i could cope with it just. lol.
the busa handles pretty well for a big bike to be honest and powers nicely out of corners but 999 feels a lot lighter because it is and handles a lot sharper.
feel it times for a change from the busa and would like a ducati at some point.
im going to go back on wed and have a longer ride of about 30 miles on some town and county to get a better feel for it.

thanks scort for the advice ive probably decided against the r1 as dont really like it in red and white. sad i know. prefer them in blue and as good as they are prefer the busa.

dureth so you think 6299 is the right price of the 999s then? do you think ill lose much in a years use with a couple of thou extra on it?

Excellant that's probably helped me decide then if I enjoy the test ride as only really planning on keeping it for a year or 2 tops then selling on and getting a new bike again. Cheers. Do you know much about the reliability of them??

cheers scort. wasnt really looking for a 999s but just saw it at the dealership were i buy all my bikes from and fancied it. its on 03 model so possibly may have the electrical problem. ill look into the problem and do a bit of research, than

lol i know what you mean mate thats one of the main factors. the bike sounded amazing when it started and watching peoples faces as i rode towards them was fun. peoples heads were turning as you approached due to the noise

yes barry it is. i wouldnt buy a bike from anywhere else. my last 4 bikes have been from them.
And now so is the Ducati. went back and took it for a slightly longer ride and although it crippled me its gorgous and the sound of the exhaust especially when you acclerate is amazing.

Hopefully collecting it next tuesday depending on the weather. its costing me 500 to swop and i get to keep my cans and power commander which the dealer willl remove for me and il can sell them on ebay or similar which i should get around 300 ish for i reckon so will stand me at 200 to swop for the ducati which i dont think is too bad. plus ive asked for a new back tyre and full service on the ducati which they will do for me prior to collecting.

ive only just noticed that they are different to the ones on pics ive googled. i take it they ae aftermarket ones? hmm if they are aftermarket it begs the question why?

had a decent test ride and it handled fine and hopefully better with the new rear tyre. looking around on ebay and biketrader and so forth i dont think the price is that bad. its one of the cheapest s versions on bike trader and the only cheaper ones i found had triple the mileage.

i dont think the bike has been down the road, it appears to clean and too much history for that plus i trust the dealer. also wouldnt make sense to spend money getting all new panels and then not putting new mirrors on to finish it off. the mirrors do appears to be be ducati ones like you say as the glass is embezzled with ducati performance. ive aked the dealer to try and find out for me what the situation is and if they have got the original mirrors. could those mirrors have been got as an option when the bike was new?

ive had a aprillia rsvr before my hayabusas and i loved the sound of it with the akropovics on it plus really like a vtwin engine it suits the way i ride.

the mirrors very much look to be a ducati part as ive found them on the ducati website as a touring option.
ive no idea on the tyres to be honest as ive left it with the dealer.

will do cheers mate. will be very sorry to see the busa go as i love it but i feel its a good deal and i can always get another one at some point but ducatis are that little bit special.

yes mate collecting it on tuesday providing its not raining. only planning on keeping it for a year really then selling it on.

well colected it on tuesday rode it home and snapped the number plate and left indicator due to poorly fit hugger.

been dynod and putting out 128 bhp and 78 torque so pretty happy with that. got it sat on abba stand in the garage now.
only problem with the bike is the amount of carbon pieces you can buy. oh dear going to be expensive. lol
