Hi,

I have decided to buy a new PC, I would build one but I dont have the time.

I have a choice of cpu to make.

PII X2 550 or PII X4 965.

The memory, gpu, hdd, dvd, psu is the same for both builds.

x2 550 - MSI AM3 790GX G65 - Coolermaster 590 case.
V
X4 965 MSI 770-C45 - Coolermaster 330 elite case.

CPU Cooler is an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro (rev 2)

Main use is games like WoW, TF2, Mass Effect 2.

Price is roughly the same for both specs.

I will OC on both eventually - I need the most future proof setup as I wont be upgrading for at least a year or 2.

Suggestions welcome.

The X4 965 comes in two versions - a 125W version and a 140W version. The MSI 770-C45 can only support CPUs upto 125W and since it has a 4 phase VRM with no cooling it will not be a good choice for overclocking a 125W AMD processor.

The MSI 790GX G65 has a 5 phase VRM with cooling meaning it will be better for overclocking.

If you are looking for a system with good stock performance get the one with the X4 965. OTH,if you want a system which is better for overclocking and will be easier to upgrade then get the Phenom II X2 550BE system. The Phenom II X2 550BE also has the chance to be unlocked to a quad core although YMMV.

TY 4 the reply.

Seen another mb to throw in the mix - Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H.

sits between the MSI 770-C45 and MSI 790GX G65 price wise.
