Hi,
Below are three builds which are all relatively the same except from the CPU. In the future I plan to get another 980 and fully water cool the whole system hence the very large case (which is also why I don't mind the DDR4 stick having no heat spreader as I can just water cool it later). The cooler for the 5820k is just the cheapest AiO I could find and for the other two Z97 CPU's I will just use the stock cooler until water cooled or if that isn't good enough i'll just pick up a separate cooler later on. I will be mostly gaming on the rig however I will most likely end up using virtual machines, doing a lot of coding and some video editing and rendering on it. I want the rig to be as future proof as possible as I want it too last me through Uni and then a while after and would really be grateful for any reasoning of which one I should go for.
